why is class B amplification, crap?

Depends on what things it does that you think are crap. If the goal is getting the most power from a output stage without isong C, then its great, not at all crap.
Other than that, I would say I think its bigest problem is to actually get a valve to cut off, you go far beyond the point where its linear, so at that point in the cycle, the two output devices are not matched, so the result can't be as linear as class A when both devices are working in the linear region.

Yes, it does seem that 'dead loud' is all that class B has in favour then. I need to read up on this, hugely basically basic as it is.
