#1 Hello from the middle of Kent...

Post by jack »

Hi,

Just joined - long time at diyaudio. Mostly do HV stuff (non-audio) but have a stash of good valves including a bunch of NIB 13E1s and Red Bank (variety). Recently rebuilt a totally destroyed Perreaux 2150B and associated SM2 preamp, so like older solid-state too where appropriate...

Designed a small SMPS that is used by a number of commercial small tube amp/effects box manufacturers.

Just want to learn and get motivated to build more amps....

If anyone is local and feels like imparting knowledge or kicking me into action, that'd be good!

Cheers!

Welcome Nick.

Maybe you have some skills that will kickstart some of us into action. :)
Much to learn there is.

Dunno about that - I have great respect for others' knowledge and my own limitations.

I seem to have a lot of valves and expensive associated iron (mostly from Sowter) accumulated over years that for some reason I can't compete into projects :-) The 13E1s are in that bracket...

I need something simple that I can complete in a reasonable timeframe, but being a bit of a perfectionist, I tend to get sidetracked and then don't complete stuff... Need a kicking really!

I was wondering about the Bevois Valley from MJ - seems reasonable, or is there somewhere better to go?

Cheers!

Hi - yes, I picked up a decent NIB batch many (many) years ago simply because they looked nice! Then, they cost peanuts...

Dangerously, I read MJ's books a few years ago, and the germ of an idea about building a "Crystal Palace" sprung into mind - I have the iron, but not the time! (or a floor strong enough)

I tend (stupidly) to buy tubes because I like their appearance as well as their sound, then I frantically look around for a suitable project before SWMBO notices. I really like the 6C33C-B (find them attractive) so was also wondering about an SE or PP using them.

One tube I'm keen to use are some C3g - a combination of these would be my ideal...

Cheers!
