Hi-since installing my Netgear wireless modem i have found it gives me problems accessing certain internet sites (mainly e-bay) so i am going to try a wired connection via the loft.
My question is-Most available leads are cat 5e,would cat 6 be better ?
I will be looking for a 15m length.

Check that you have the most up to date drivers for the card. Unless you have fiber to your house (i.e live in Japan) the WiFi should have no problem keeping up with a ADSL line. (unless its being used for other things like streaming audio, but I would still expect at least 10mb/s throuput.
Try using one of the siites that let you check your throuput like
http://www.speedtest.net/
As for the network cable, 5e should be fine unless you want to use Gb ethernet.

Hi-if i click on the wireless connection icon (as of 9.00 today) it says my connection speed is 24.0Mbps (i am on up to 1M ADSL broadband) and signal strength is very low (was just low yesterday)
Is this a Netgear problem or just a slow connection ?
Speedtest now (9.10) says download 977 Kbs ,upload 243 Kbs

How far is your PC from the router, and what is in between? I have my router in the cupboard under the stairs and get "very good" 54mb/s downstairs, but "poor" 11mb/s upstairs, when everything slows down. It may be worth playing around with the positioning of the aerials on the router and PC.

Hi Shane-the router is in my living room,on the telephone table (close to the prime phone socket) and the computer is on my office (small bedroom-ground floor-bungalow) about 15ft direct contact with 2 dividing walls in the way.
PC and wireless modem both about 3ft from floor.
Fiddling with the positioning i now have 54 Mbps and good.

Either way, the limiting factor is going to be (for internet access)
Which looks fine for a 1Mbps ADSL link.Speedtest now (9.10) says download 977 Kbs ,upload 243 Kbs

I'm finding one wall is enough to drop my connection?
It's granite about 18" thick and cuts the house in half top to bottom.
Yet I can see my neighbors wireless through a second wall 3ft thick on top of my 18" one.
She has a BT provided unit and I have a Netgear.
