Post by colin.hepburn »

Hi All
Have just received my mains TX from ask Jan. I asked him for wiring plan when ordered but he didn't’t send it I have email him for one but he has not responded there is a label on the TX with pin numbers but this is confusing to me can someone have a look at the this and sketch a wiring plan for me as I'm lost without this and don’t want to blow the TX I thank you for any help you can provide
Notes from AJ's Site
Highly versatile multi purpose 200 VA transformer for use with tube circuits. Primary : 100/127/230 V, can be used worldwide !!! , Secondaries: 2*270 V 0,2 A ; 2* 50 V 0,2 A; 6,3 V 2 A for preamp tubes, 5 V 2,5 A for rectifier and 6,3 V 7 A for heaters of output tubes. B+ secondaries can also be connected in parallel for use with a rectifier bridge. The 50 V secondaries can be used for biasing or in series wit hath 270 V secondaries to get a 320 V plate supply

OK, primary first, looks like you want pin 7 = live and 11 = neutral for UK operation.

Next up we'd need to know what you want out of the it? Looks like you can get 270-0-270, for HT, similarly 50-0-50 etc.

You've also got various combo of 6.3v and 5v etc for heaters.

Looks like quite a versatile beasty.

cheers,

Andrew
270-0-270 v
5v@2.5A rec
6.3@2 A
6.3 @ 7A
Plus maybe 320v for some other amp project
I think pin 5 0v pin 4 270v pin 2 0v pin 1.270 I think so pin 5/1 joined together for 270-0-270 or have I got that wrong

OK, a bit at a time.

To get a center tap I would connect 4 & 2 togther and ground them as 0v then take your voltage from 1 & 5. So connect the middle two together and ground that, then take your volatge from the outer two pins to the anodes of the rectifier.

I just checked, I recently did same for a Hammond that has twin windings, i.e 0-x and 0-x.

Then for your rectifier's heater, take pin 18 to one end of the rect's heater and pin 19 to the other, then take your B+ off pin 19. Niether of these go to ground, assuming its a regular 5v octal rectifier; the heaters float.

However, can someone give me a sanity/double check?

cheers,

This might help visualize the heaters.

It looks right to me.

Andrew is right - it looks complicated but have you a meter to check 'continuity' on each set of windings?

That will help your confidence in getting the wiring right.

Hi Colin-why not make a continuity checker with a battery and bulb and a couple of bits of wire ?
