Nice machien Ray, I have an 11 speed shimano hub in a Raleigh Royal, like it a lot although I also have a Specialized Turbo Levo, and at almost 72 with two knee replacments, it makes off road riding more plesurable. Bob

Thanks. I'm not far behind you, Bob, at 67yrs. I do gravel rides but mountain biking isn't my thing, I'm far to fragile! I'm a roadie; I'm in the process of upgrading my 3T Strada's 1x drive train with a Classified Powershift set-up, which should be interesting and fun. Most of my riding is on Zwift currently, but looking forward to getting back outdoors when I finish my chemotherapy and the days are longer an warmer.

Good news Ray!

Despite now having one ceramic knee and the other likely to follow suit pretty soon, went out for a quick 20km. Lovely.

I like the look of your Genesis. Certainly has the looks of a quick commuter so, why fit knobbly tyres instead of ‘city slickers’?

EDIT. Sorry, my question appears a little aggressive. Not intended. I’m genuinely interested in why you chose those tyres.

No problem at all Greg, and I didn't sense any aggression. To answer the question just consider the surface that many cycle routes have - lots of gravel and chippings and, in places, bare earth. The cyclo-cross tyres are designed to roll easily on tarmac and still have have sufficient tread to cope with some loose surface. The fatter 38mm tyre width means you can run them at lower pressure for better grip and comfort, plus improved puncture resistance.

So, by equipping the bike the way I have gives me more flexibility about where I can ride it.

For info, here's a link to the actual tyres I'm using - great price at the moment too.

Another vote here for Schwalbe ... we have all country lanes with potholes & loose flint gravel - destroys ordinary tires. Also we cycle in Bedgebury & Hemsted Forests on the tracks there. Schwalbe are great - no punctures any more...

Well,I went tubless three years ago, using stans sealent and one 20 mile ride not long after going tubless, I looked at the tires when I got home and pulled severn thorns from the rear and two from the front, a small spot of fluid came out of most but not all the holes and the tires stayed inflated. No more tubes for me. Bob

Yeah, I've been running tubeless on most of my bikes for a number of years with similar experience. The Genesis is tubed clinchers, dictated by the wheels.

I have a new pair of Schwalbe Pro One tubeless tyres to fit on the 3T this weekend, I'm hoping it will be less of a test than some Continentals I had to fit last year!
