I've been doing a bit of astrophotography on and off for about 10 years - although I'm still not very good at it.
During that time, there has been a gradual trend towards mounting some sort of mini pc on the scope and automating the process.
A few years ago I tried astroberry, which runs on a raspberry pi. I could see the potential, but my chosen camera (Sony A7s) wasn't very well supported.
There's a commercial version called stellar mate, and another called ASIAIR. They both ride on the back of the same open source software that is the basis of astroberry, but commercialise it, which doesn't really sit very well so I resisted the temptation.
The latest ASIAIR has pretty good support for my camera, and other features such as controllable dc power for dew heaters, so I gave in and bought one. It's been a bit of a steep learning curve at my age, but last weekend I got all the bits working together and took some test shots. I went for an 'easy' target, the core of Andromeda, showing the dust lanes

Went to a talk last night given by Anthony Seldon about the Via Sacra/Western Front Way - a 1,000km walking/cycling route that he's championed and hopes will become a new Camino...

Extraordinary man: deeply thoughtful, compassionate & intelligent.

We need more people like him.

I've heard him speak a few times now - different subjects each time - always fascinating and insightful with a dry, self deprecating, wit. His book about the Johnson premiership is brilliant - one of the books of the year. Spoiler alert: Seldon was less than impressed!

Been trying to extract 40 ltrs of diesel from my tank before the salvage company come to collect it, without any success. Antisphyon devices stop my putting the transfer pipe down the fuel filler pipe. Tried disconnecting the fuel feed pipe under the back seat and connecting the transfer pump on there too without any success. If I could have got under the bonnet it would be easy, but that’s jammed shut after the shunt.

Talking to a friend in the breaker trade, the government pay an incentive for insurance companies to take cars over 10 years old off the road. So be warned….

I've been up to my neck in diy, my daughter completed her house sale in September, since then I've piped up her house and fitted the radiators just awaiting for my mate to fit the new central heating boiler.
The last 3 werks spent stripping out and refitted the bathroom, moving an internal wall and building a new shower cubicle.
That's now finished, so moving on to refitting the kitchen..
On to of the that my father's had a heart attack and been in hospitalfor a week, as a result had to put mum into a home, as dad is her carer.
