Had a great day at RideLondon today - had a stormer and shaved half an hout off my time from last year.

Cheers Mark. I don't have a time for 100miles from when I was 20, back in the 1970's the only accurate timing I had was for TTs and I never did one over 100miles. I did do circa 100mile rides but they were typically informal, relaxed club runs.IslandPink wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:03 pm Remarkable time, Ray. Half an hour better than my PB when i was 20 !
My time for the RideLondon results from all the riding I do now, including on Zwift during the winter, which is much more than when I was a club rider in my teens and early twenties (fewer distractions nowadays - well, actually I still have the distractions but...), plus the motivation of being in such a big event and setting out to bag a new PB. A modern bike makes a contribution too, lighter, more aero and simply more efficient - and my best bike back in the 1970's was a pretty top-notch Bob Jackson. Feeding too, I only had one short stop to refill my drink and eat a banana and flapjack slice, as mostly I was constantly micro-feeding with a high-carb isotonic drink with some gel top-ups.
I was back out again yesterday afternoon for a 25mile loop on the local hills and I felt strong so I'm recovering better too.

I now have a selection of 'official' photographs from RideLondon 2023 and was particualrly pleased with the 'action' shot below.

Interestingly, they find pictures of you from the many thousands taken, using facial recognition software.

With the fine weather I finished work at lunchtime on Friday and took the gravel bike for an outing - train down to Exeter and then rode the Exe Estuary Trail. Just one minor thing, there was no gravel, it's almost all tarmac with a few boardwalk sections. A nice way to relax at the end of a working week.
