Are yes like the stuff we had to put up with in junior school, all it mostly seemed to do was spread it around, not actually get it off

My first job was at the Izal factory in Chapeltown Sheffield. I worked in the factory laboratory where I used to test the paper reels before they went to the bog roll machines in number 1 machine room (the narrow strip building next to the road in the pic below.) Tests included tensile strength, density, wet strength and bursting strength. There were also fascinating interleaving machines that produced flatpacks of the medicated tissue to fit the letterbox like containers behind the cubicle doors in public conveniences, where you could pull out one sheet at a time. 😀
During WW2 the factory produced toilet rolls with a cartoon of Hitler’s face on each sheet. The Govt didn’t like it because they didn’t see such humour as “the British thing to do.”

Also used to test the Zal disinfectant, the bath salts and all the Ronseal products. Got the boot when the factory closed down and they moved production down south. Went to work for the Post Office Telephones after that.

Did you have a smirk on your face when you found that the wet strength was nearly as good as the dry strength ?

For a while I was on a project at a military location in the middle of nowhere. A wooden hut rammed with comms equipment, in a huge forest, miles from anywhere civilised or even a proper road.

In the latrine, there were rolls of military Izal, each sheet stamped with "Government issue - do not remove". You had to make your own entertainment out there: I thought it quite funny...

It was a good job. Newton Chambers (the parent co) was a great firm to work for. They were taken over by a huge conglomerate. The outcome was inevitable. Only the Ronseal bit survives I think, but whether any varnish/stain manufacturing takes place on the chemical works site (if it even exists now) I don’t know.

Well I think because of folk like extinction rebellion that glue themselves to roads, Police were instructed to have zero tolerance.

But as a far left “Socialist Workers Party” member (where labour is seen and talked about as a party that always for many years has made strong socialist rhetoric but has 100% of times danced to the tune of the “super rich” puppet masters in the final analysis) I thought as I sat down with Diana to watch hours on end of my taxes being spent, “I didn’t vote for him!”. Anyhow Diana has little life these days so I accompanied her in watching something she likes.

Me soon after the Royal Wedding Charles and Di, which Diana vhs recorded. i was stuck for a tape to record the formula 1. Shes never tried to watch the Royal Wedding again. If she tried shed get Murray Walker doing the commentry.

Its one marital secret I dont think important I have to out myself about to her…..

She’s had enormous trials with her disease, let her live in her royal bubble.

what a difference a few hours can make....

when I read Ray's post and link the talk was all about heavy handed police behaviour ....then the news at lunch time focusses on the fact that the demonstrators were using rape alarms to make as much noise as possible...

well, in view of the fact that this was all about horses then public safety must be an issue....

If you read a bit more into it Ed, they' seem to be two entiely separate issues - apparently some workers for one of the London councils were arrested when promoting an initiative to protect women, nothing to do with the 'Not my King' people. It seems like a deliberate piece of misinformation.

After nearly 10 weeks, the generator was finally switched off last night and is just being removed now...

We are now directly connected to our new 100A 3ph supply... Still a load of remedial work to do on the garden...
