These are quite fun:

You can get them in AA, AAA, PP7 etc. formats from a number of suppliers (the above link is just an example). Nice idea.

For some (unknown) reason the link is missing for me. :(

<pedant mode>

not sure of the benefit here.

Apart from the marketing confusion where some suppliers are now advertising batteries in mwh instead of the original method of mah...it could mislead some.

these batteries have a capacity of about 330 mah compared to cheap dry batteries of about 400 mah. In comparison to the NiMh standard rechargers which have capacities of 1000-2000 mah and the more recent lithium AA. AAA etc which have capacities in the region of 3000 mah.

stuffing the charging mechanism inside the battery itself doesn't make up for the fact that these are the least useful(i.e having to charge them more often). Having kids with toys is the best yeardstick when choosing batteries..imo.

All valid points. Probably best use case for these is in the car or similar where you can use the usual USB ports to top them up. Yes, they are piddly in mAh terms - the win, if there is one, is in convenience.

Otoh, I've started using Kodak AA batteries - they work out at 10p each - in a couple of Roland guitar pedals - just because I'm curious.

On the other I can't fault the re-chargeable lithium AAs I marvelled at about 6 months ago. ( in a couple of busking guitar amps which need high power for a couple of hours - very easy indeed!

#2 son did the London marathon today for Dementia UK- first time we've watched it - we were on Birdcage Walk - great fun day out.

He crossed the line at 3:36:21 - he was a bit miffed he didn't quite get sub 3:30 but it's the first marathon he's run and he had a stinking cold so was really bunged up. Lost 1 toenail, so not too damaged...

Fantastically well organized. Really impressed.

No, because I'm a Three network subscriber. I was driving back from Wales at the time and decided to pull over before it went off in case some numpty Sunday driver near me who didn't know it was going to happen got taken by surprise whilst piloting two tons of dangerous metal. 3 o'clock came and went and bugger all happened.

I got back to find my work phone (which is on O2) had received the message, but according to my wife had not made the sireny noise.

I presume all this bollocks is because we have sent Chieften Tanks to Ukraine.

I wasnt impressed by my phone going bonkers. If they think Im voting for them they have another think coming.

Voting for whom? This is a civil defense test, not a party political broadcast!

Similar national alert systems have been in place for many years, prior to mobile phones it was the BBC who broadcast the warnings or local sirens sounding. The Environment Agency have been using a similar system for flood alerts in Somerset etc for some time.

I know it sometimes feels like it, but not everything is the government's fault!
