Am i right in thinking that upgrading the op amps in my cd player will make no difference if I use a coaxial output to a dac from the cd player

If the op-amps in question are feeding the output phono's and the coax bypasses all of that, I would say yes. 
I am reminded of some years ago reading an article where a couple of guys were trying upgrading the op-amps in a CD player and testing for any actual detectable differences – which might have amounted to, just listening for them. This included sticking vibration damping blocks (rubber?) on top of the chips then seeing if this also affected the quality of the output. It seemed like they wanted to convince themselves that it might...
