I think I have 'Stars and Water Carriers', and 'A Sunday in Hell' on VHS. Fascinating period pieces.

Yes Mark - I really like that 'Stars and Water Carriers' features more than just the cycling, mechanics get a look in for example. The references to maintaining a good 'thrust' made me smile.

I stayed with my friend Andrew in Paris in April 1989 and we went out to see the start of Paris Roubaix in Compeigne. The whole scene and atmosphere was really quite similar in some ways except for some minor updates to fashions, and newer cars, it was only about 15 years after the film was made. I actually watched the film after the 1989 trip, so it was very interesting to see the subtle differences.

Milan San Remo, Tom Pidcock, Saturday.
A nice 302km club-run in the Italian fields and along the coast ... at about 26mph.

Just been out for a standard ride down the valley. Felt a tiny bit fitter than of late, came back in around 1hr05, was expecting 1hr10 for that route.
Still a bit cool, I had the gloves on again. We have been so short of sunshine here in N.Wales so far this year, it's would just be so nice to finally see sunshine and a bit of warmth. The leaves will be on the trees at this rate, before the sun comes out.

I'm planning to catch the Milan-San Remo highlights after dinner - I know the result but should still be worth a watch I think.

We've been seeing better weather down here than you experienced Mark. I'm doing more outdoor miles now and I did a long ride with nine chaps from work yesterday, Taunton to Cheddar, a climb of the gorge then back to Taunton via a different route. Although some of the lanes were a bit mucky we stayed dry and had a fair amount of sunshine. In old money that's 81miles. 2900ft elevation at an average speed of 15.6mph. The weather today was even better, a pleasant early spring day.

I rode the New Forest Classic sportive event this morning. The New Forest is a fantastic place to cycle, gently undulating terain, great scenery and lovely little villages. The only downside was the amount of water on the roads, both standing and running, after the recent heavy rain but I still thoroughly enjoyed the ride and felt strong throughout - ) covered the 126Km (78miles) in 4hrs 28mins, which is an average speed of 28.2kph (17.5mph).

Cheers Mr. b - how's your own riding coming along?

I'll be up in the smoke in 5weeks time as I'm doing RideLondon 100 again.

I've been off work and it's been baltic a lot of the time, but I did get out Thursday and Yesterday for an hour or so, when it was nicer.
