I've had a couple of SMS text messages on the landline recently, they are read out in a robot voice....
this morning I received one which had 2 messages...you have to press a button to get the thing to continue..I pressed to continue..

the first message from parcel force and asked me to press 1 to continue, 2 to store, and 3 to delete message....I pressed 1 and it told me a parcel would be delivered between 11 and 12...so far so good.

the sexond message was form an 077... mobile number......I didn't press anything and put the phone down in my best paranoid fashion.

I had a distinct memory of a scam in the past where an anonymous number rings and asks to press a number, whereby you are relieved of funds via the telephone bill or some such......

Anybody got any thoughts on this?
I figured if it were important enough the caller might ring in person, but maybe not.

I would think Parcel Force would sent a letter, they did to me once about outstanding import duty for a parcel.

parcel force delivered a large box at 11:30..so at lease the 1st message was kosher...

we'll likely never know about the 2nd message....unless it was a scam and the next phone bill hurts.

I seem to remember one particular sender used to send text messages to my landline, but I've not had any for a while.

Having said that I'd treat such messages as suspicious in the future.

I was charged once for continuing to listen to the message and since then I have been wary of these types of messages.

I swerved the latest scam by accident. A mate bought a new small bit set and raved about it. So searched it and found Zoro had them at £9 compared to all the other vendors near double that price.

So I went with Zoro bought 2 one for apprentice. Bought another tool also great value to get free postage.

Later that day misplaced my business debit card so blocked it on my banking app. A new card was on the way. This detail is thre key!

Next day emails came from Zoro to say additional purchases I had made after the legit purchase I made had been refused by my card. What a good job I blocked my card which I found later but destroyed.

So if an online supplier is eyewateringly cheaper, don’t!

In case its missed in the detail. The two bit sets are great and the extra tool to make up enough for free postage was great. All three arrived as fast as electrons slamming into an anode!

But the scam is if I hadnt unrelatedly blocked my card Zoro would have taken more money for purchases not made by me.

You see they kept trying to take more money after the event, days later.

In case anyone thinks Im rich merchants bills exceed available balance!

Have you asked Zoro about that? I don't use them (or had heard of them till now) but A quick check is they offer subscription payments, so that could be the reason for the second payment. It may be that you now owe them £15.95 and if left unpaid you may find a hit on your credit record.

I have used Zoro quite a bit. Good for engineering supplies. Never had any issues with being charged twice for things.

For my part, I also think it's a scam. I haven't encountered this kind of problem yet.

Be wary if you get a replacement debit/credit card in the post, more so if the old one has long time before expiry.

Santander was one a friend got, and it was not genuine. Not a problem till you try and validate it.
