Elektor this month (November/December 2022) have an interesting amp with the following numbers: THD+N: 0.000.8 % at 50 W
into 8 Ω, maximum power 98 W into 8 Ω or 188 W into 4 Ω with THD ≤ 1 %. Uses a DC servo and is fully protected against DC on output and PSU faults... final drive is NJL3281D/NJL1302D, which are nice devices...
All PTH construction too... I've been tempted to build another "straight bit of wire with gain" amp for a while and with the PSU requirements this has, an "ideal rectifier" PSU based on the LT4320 (or similar) would be nice...
Really quite tempted...

Everything that I have ever built from Elektor has worked well for a short time, then failed. Amplifiers, preamplifiers, NiCad battery chargers and the like. Maybe it is me but I doubt it.

Nah. It's you!
Being fair, I've built a few things from elektor over the last 40 years or so and they've always been fine...

Though it looks a bit problematic to get hold of.which are nice devices
Little known fact, coherent thought can destructively interfere with itself leaving no thought at all, that’s why I prefer incoherent thought.

True. Mind you, 83 weeks factory lead time is interesting...

There are lots of parts at the moment with that sort of lead time
