My Swansong speaker build
#121 Re: My Swansong speaker build
Speakers in place now in my listening room and hooked up to Scott's 1st pass filter for the midrange and tweeter.
How do they sound........... and that's without the bass drivers hooked up.
Scott has done a super job of the filter. Just now awaiting young Chris (aka chris661) to get back to me so we can arrange a suitable time and date to sort the DSP for the Hypex amps driving the bass units.
Eva Cassidy has never before sounded so good.
EDIT.

To be honest guys, it's a relief they sound so good in the present configured set up, having spent quite some effort and time building and designing them (with Scott's help one must add) as well as quite some financial investment. But they have the potential to be the best speakers Scott and I have produced, especially once the bass has been properly sorted. And then there is the potential for further improved sonics with replacing most the coffin ceramic resistors and basic capacitors with some better-quality components in the passive XO. A very fitting Swan song.

The devil, of course, is always in the detailespecially once the bass has been properly sorted
But sounds good so far, look forward to hearing them.

Aye Ant they are rather large beasts and make my Edingdale speakers look quite small.
However, if you can get on board the missus then your halfway there. Just get her involved in choosing the finish is what I've learned.

They don't look at all shabby in-place. Glad they're working reasonably so far, Colin.
PS -if you want a [very] rough idea what they may be like with the LF units going & you happen to have the components to hand -shove a 4.7mH inductor in series with the bass drivers & fire them up. It will not (chronic understatement) be anything like refined, & since there's no EQ present the usable outright LF extension will be a bit more limited than what it will be when the active modules are fired up, but it should give a few hints at the general direction.
