@Brian:- Looks great and a slight sense of the coast with the rope. For years Ive been eying up spheres in the shops, but never done anything with them. Too short a life, spent mostly being whipped to work harder and faster in day job….

After a chat with Steve at the WAM show last weekend, about how my system was lacking bottom end last year. I have been butchering the bass cabinets of the supravox 16” drivers, reducing them to 130 ltrs. So that they will have a Q of 0.5 sealed. Hopefully with some DSP and maybe Chris amp if my 500w isn’t enough, should be able to fill the room. Added bonus cabinets will fit in the car now too, no need for a van.

You're welcome to borrow additional power. I'll be bringing a couple of multi-kilowatt amps.

I'll also be bringing a couple of very capable subwoofers. If you'd rather save the Supravox drivers from high power inputs, we can run my subs for the really low stuff.

All being well I'll bring along the Return-to-Zero DSD DAC that I've been testing. It should be a good comparison to the Valve DAC.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I will know for certain after this weekend, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to demo a complete system of turntable + Pete Millett LR phono stage + Bruno Putzey 'purist' balanced preamp custom build in a Quad 34 stylee + 300B Olson-esque push-pulls + Big Mets.

The dependency is the Putzey balanced preamp / linestage 'hub' which I'm rushing to finish - PCB's are almost done and the chassis panels arrived from Schaeffer today. The thing is that these PCB's are so far untested and I'm giving it 50/50 that it'll work properly first time as I've had to reverse engineer the relay control system and heavily modify the software. If the linestage is a bust, I might still be able to demo if maybe Nick could kindly bring along that TVC linestage that we used at Steve's place that time - it just needs to support balanced / XLR input/output. My target is to make the go / no-go decision by the end of this coming weekend.

Anyway, at a minimum we will bring along the Pete Millett phono. It's hard wired for MC though, with Lundahl 1:16 or 1:32 step-up iron.

Dave, if I can pull off getting it there, the Valve DAC has balanced XLR outputs, though it doesn't have any volume control unless that is done in the player software.

Thanks Ray - that could be an alternative source as it'll plug right into the linestage. Currently negotiating with Ant about an arm for the Lenco 3A so that I have a front end on the day, Garrard is just way too heavy to bring. Question, is anyone planning to bring a turntable with a LOMC fitted, 0.5mV output or less?

Yes, I have the one I borrowed from Dave for the show last week that I will be bringing to give back (Saturday only). And the TVC I will bring has XLR and RCA in and out.

Thanks Nick, that's good to know, I'm still a bit nervous of travelling with my VdH Black Beauty - skeletal construction, no stylus guard!!

I'm definitely going to need the TVC, I discovered a serious manufacturing fault (plus another cosmetic one) in the line stage's main chassis panel this morning which is a deal-breaker, I can't fit the small power button PCB! It looks like the panel slipped whilst it was on the CNC machine which put a bunch of holes out of alignment. There's no way Schaeffer are going to be able to get another out to me in time.

What's the turntable / cartridge Nick?

:D

That'll do.

So my final rig looks like it's turning out to be -

Front end: That, or possibly Lenco 3A / SME3009 / VdH Black Beauty if I don't bottle out of bringing the VdH,
Pete Millett LR phono stage with AMB regulated supply,
Borrowed TVC,
300B push-pull monos,
Big Mets.

Now to find a van to rent as the Mets won't fit in the Lexus...

Will you be bringing your monoblocks, Nick ? It would be good to hear one driving the Purifi monitor.
