My Lenovo chromebook came a short while ago, and it seems to work well, HOWEVER it seems it has passed it's sell by date with regard to official updates.
Now that is something I had not heard about.
I can still use as is I suppose, but I'm a bit miffed.

Yes it was Paul.
I blame myself though, I should have done more research.

I have no experience of this Phil but you can change the OS using the firmware utility script on this site: https://mrchromebox.tech/#home. Which would allow you to put an alternative Linux on it

Thanks Neal, I had a look at that site, and read the words, but trying to understand what they mean is another thing.Neal wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 5:32 pm I have no experience of this Phil but you can change the OS using the firmware utility script on this site: https://mrchromebox.tech/#home. Well.......installing the UEFI bios allows you to install a conventional OS of your choice....as long as it will fit on the local storage you have.....ie Linux.
If you are not able to do that Phil you’ll have to sell the chrome book on.....

Checkout youtube, there are a number of 'tutorials' on installing Linux on a Chromebook. For example;
Not watched them or done anything with a Chromebook but have done a number of Linux installs on various machines and it's a lot easire than it used to be.

Thanks Ray. I've got an old PC running the latest version of Ubuntu, so I know what it's like to use.
You tube is a veritable gold mine on how to do things, especially for divs like me. I'll have a look.

Strangely enough, whilst using the Chromebook this morning, and fiddling with the settings, I got a message from Google.
They offered me a last and final update, which I downloaded, so I'm up to date as of August 28th 2019.
The previous last update was November 2018.
I have read that Google are re-thinking their policy and may offer limited updates on old machines in the future.

I'm not sure whether to go Chrome or Ubuntu on this Lenovo, but I need a new USB stick first.
My 8GB USB stick seems to be faulty, as when I got my laptop to read it, it said the capacity was only 1GB.
Anyway, I've got a new one coming.
