SACD
#1 SACD
I have a few SACD discs.
If I use my DVD player (SACD capable) to play these discs do I get the full SACD capability via the digital output and my Bushmaster DAC, or just the "ordinary" sound from the second layer CD ?

Dull plain ordinary CD standard. Annoying isn't it!
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Um,so what's the best way to get "proper" SACD sound ?

Spend thousands of Euros on a high quality SACD player.
Or
The SACD SOUND I get out of my pioneer whatever it is and Samsung whatever that is seems better or pleasantly different to the CD OUTPUT or even than digital output through my external d/a converter.

Does the same apply to DVD-Audio ? (re the SPDIF output)

Depending on the player it may or may not pass 24/192 data over the SPDIF. The default is usually not, and the player will downsample 24/192 to 24/96 prior to sending the data over the SPDIF.

I had to look up 'SACD'. Oo-er! Never heard of it before.
According to t'Internet, it was developed for 5.1 channel "surround sound", which was a big flop, so ditto SACD etc. Very few recordings made for it and even fewer that are actually any good. Stereo is still the pooch's danglies cos of the now prolific use of iPads and headphones.

Well, the internet in this case is somewhat wrong. It was originally developed as a replacement for CD and can be used for surround, its used as a distribution format for DSD. Not very common now for pop and rock, but if you ever listen to radio 3, you might be surprised how many recordings they mention as being on Hybrid SACD.Mike H wrote:I had to look up 'SACD'. Oo-er! At last, I am able to play my SACD collection (3 discs) and experience the SQ.
Now playing the 2 channel layer via the analogue outs and using a Sony SACD demonstration 2 disc set that (from memory) Andrew I gave me.
Thanks Andrew.
