#1 Specially made inductors

Post by The Black Adder »

Hi all.

I'm looking to make me some inductors, is there anyone who can help me or could maybe make the following?

It's for some Tannoys.

Value = 0.82mH
DCR = 12 Ohms
Bobbin core needs to be (I think) 1/4"

I'd also love to know if anyone can tell me the best way of making some myself.

Thanks
Jo

There are winding calculators on the net for making air cored coils.

Try Gerry at Falcon Acoustics https://www.falconacoustics.co.uk/

12 ohm DCR is very high for an inductor. If the value DCR is not in his standard listings you could always add a resistor to get to the 12 ohms.

thanks chaps.

Yes, it is high on DCR. But I have a customer who has inquired for an exact copy.

I've tried Falcon too. I'm pretty stumped.

I'm almost 100% certain that the 12ohm bit is a typo, or a seperate resistor.

Yes if this was for passing bass / mid you normally want VERY low resistance or preferably none :D

Error using multimeter? Ohms scale not zeroed first?

Original component under test is damaged? Dirty meter probes? Etcetera etcetera .....

Hi guys.

The value is definitely correct. I've measured and the original circuit has no resistor before the inductor in both schematic and physically.

It is odd, but it looks to be correct. Obvously Tannoy made them in the first instance to give space in the case which is very compact, it would have been very restrictive to add another resistor for that reason.

Any chance of a circuit, can't get me head round this. (?)

Did you measure it on a LCR meter? Its possible the inductance may have confused a simple ohmmeter.
