#1 Lowther DX45 buzzing

Post by Thermionic Idler »

Got an issue with one of the Lowther DX45's in my Aristoteles developing an intermittent buzz. Suspect it's probably dust, dirt or the coils making contact with the magnet.

A couple of years back I got a similar issue with the other driver fixed by Audiolincs who were the importers at the time. Jim has since retired, however, and I don't know who supports these now.

Is anyone here good with Lowthers and could potentially help me fix this, or alternatively know any companies that could help? I'm nowhere near confident enough to disassemble the thing myself.

Thanks.

I had a problem with an EX4 18 months ago or so. Turned out it was the magnet material breaking up and minute fragments getting caught in the tiny space between the coil and magnet causing grating and an intermittent buzz.

I did speak with Lowther and they talked me through servicing them but it sounded a bit specialist with something so expensive so I feel your pain! I found a chap in Worksop who was a service agent for Lowther and has been working with them for 50 odd years he told me. Can't remember his name or contact details but Lowther should be able to give you his details. It was him that took them apart and then told me of the history.

Thanks Simon, I'll try giving Lowther a call.
