#1 How to change 8-ohm adjustable L-PAD to 6-ohm?

Post by Toppsy »

Ok you experts so how can I modify my 8-ohm adjustable L-Pad to 6-ohm?

I was using 8-ohm Ribbon tweeters on a pair of experimental speakers but the minimum crossover frequency is too high. I have found another ribbon that has a recommended lower minimum crossover frequency but they are 6-ohm? And there lies my problem.

Can I simply add a 24-ohm wire wound resistor soldered between terminals 1 and 3?

I know I can use fixed L-Pad but for experimental purposes an adjustable unit is desirable.

I have attached a pdf of the wiring set-up for the L-Pad.

EDIT
I have removed the original attachment and inserteda scanned image of the datasheet.

You need something like this...

http://chemandy.com/calculators/matchin ... ulator.htm

Where the left hand side is 8R and is the L-Pad, and the right hand leg of the PI is 6R of the devices, it will (as a side effect) create extra attenuation so you might be better fixing it to have the attenuation you require.
