Garrard 301 is Screaming....Please Help
#1 Garrard 301 is Screaming....Please Help
Hi I'm new to this board and a lover of Garrard 301 / 401's. Currently I'm using a Type 3 cream / Grease 301. I've had it a while and it's been running well for over a year - Today I noticed under the music a high pitched screaming sound...Alarmed I turned the volume down and sure enough something is making a screaming noise eminating from the underside of the TT. It seems to be an intermitent problem with the screaming stopping and starting at will. The unit itself has recently had a spindle housing strip down and a Kokomo bearing upgrade the sound is almost electrical in nature but could be from a moving part - I have removed the platter and had a listen but the sound is certainly coming from the underside as opposed to an idler wheel problem. Could anyone advise??? I
I hope someone out there can shed some light on this - I just want the screaming to stop..

I've been investigating further this morning. With the platter removed and the rubber idler wheel held away from the speed / brake disk / motor pulley the sound still persists - If I place a finger on top of the motor pulley the pitch changes, if I apply (very minimal pressure) the sound stops....Only to return
I cant see anything that is obviously slipping or indeed rubbing at any visible point...To describe the sound perhaps slightly better it is not too dissimilar to the sound of a cars fan belt slipping a sort of high pitched scream

My initial comment would be a drop of oil on the motor bearings !

I'm confused, I understood a package was on it's way here?
