I can't honestly see what his problem is with Fostex drivers. All of us who have designed high efficiency speakers with them are perfectly well aware of their limitations, particularly the lack of low bass that all hi-eff designs; fostex driven or not, suffer from. Those of us who have built baffles...

So really I should build an Edgar sub and use smaller baffles right? IME providing you keep the sub's xover point where it can't do any damage ie no higher than 50Hz then active bass is fantastic. You also need to run the sub off your main amp's speaker terminals so that you keep the character of t...

You're of course absolutely right Nick. :) If I hadn't been in the position of owning my own place I wouldn't have been able to tell the powers that were, in my old school, to go and f**k themselves and go part time. Neither would I have been able to devote the time to DIY audio that I have been abl...

no my stuff doesnt go in the front room either, but it isnt a show house front room by any means, it's just an issue of children's safety. Hi Paul My stuff has to go in the front room as our house is so small that there is nowhere else to put a system, so I have to be very mindful of the grandkids ...

Luxury......I wouldn't get away with a breadboard in our front room. And as for open baffles, I daren't even think about them.

Oh I see, so you don't need baffle step correction because of the behaviour of your box right? Yes and no really. It depends where you put the box. The cabs are all specifically designed for boundary placement (WAF being their main raison d'etre) and rely heavily on the proximity of walls and floor...

If u dont put the choke in u havent got baffle step correction you've just increased the impedance of the load on the amp and shared the signal across all frequencies with a resistor, resulting in less output. Th epurpose of baffle step correction is the opposite of what you say you hear, the top i...

drivers exhibited in this cabinet has been banished by the simple addition of a 2R 10W wirewound resistor in the positive leg of each speaker. Want to remind us again why you have a push pull amp with a low output resistance :-). Well I think the resistance is something to do with raising the Q of ...

Hi Guys Lots seem to be happening on the speaker front this festive season so I'll add in my two'pennorth. Quite a simple addition to the speaker again just like the chopping board bases. The last of the slight shout that the FE108ES drivers exhibited in this cabinet has been banished by the simple ...
