WTD - 3K OPTS for 4P1L PSE amp
I am after a pair of OPT's so i can try out the PSE design i am buildin. I have decided as its a "new" schematic i did not want to go and buy an expensive pair of OPT's until i am happy with the design. Has anyone got any in a cupboard gathering dust, that need a new home.

Taking all the advise on board and contacting various people, i think i now have a foundation to start from. Discussing it with Andy Evans here is his latest version, which has only had minor tweeks over the last year or so. Having gone around the OPT's - the Transcendars seem to good to be true, lo...

Having looked around i have drawn the conclusion that there isn't a commercially available amp (that i can afford which will do what i want) Having looked around the options suggested EL84's or DHT, i cannot see much more complexity with DHT's, and have been put off going down the exotic tube routes...

Did not get the monarchy amps as they went for almost as much as a baby Krell on another forum. Wasn't worth the risk, as my logic is if i buy something reasonably priced then i can move it on without much financial hardship. Having been in contact with someone who has some BD Swings, and has tried ...

Having now taken in what everyone has said on this forum (and others) There are a couple of options. 1) Build/have built a valve multichannel amp to cover Mf and Hf. Space constraints dictate only 2 pairs of monoblocks. (one of those driving the bass channels) Cost if built for me, time and knowledg...

FS - GE Dielektrol 35uf 440V Capacitors
Whilst looking on the Web for inspiration for my next amp. I noticed that a lot of amps were using what looked to me like the old GE motor run caps. I remembered i bought a load of these back in the 80's to try running 3ph motors off 1ph supply. I cannot see me building any amps that will use them. ...

I know its going off topic, but marrying up drivers with the TPL isn't easy. I had tried running my Altec 414'z with the TPL's as a 2 way ( 1100 -1600hz) it was not bad, but lacked the authority and realism that putting the JBL 2482's in between adds. ( even with the issues of driver spacing to acco...

Theres alot of information to take in here - and i am concluding there is no free lunch. Maybe there isnt one solution for MF and HF. What what makes me smile is the comments on the presentation of the different amps. Taking a step back from it - an amplifier is a wire with gain, and should not add ...

Before i went to the DSP, and was using more conventional approaches for the crossovers i would pad down across the speaker terminals, and that of course reduced the background noise. Maybe an attenuation bridge using 10W Caddocks would be transparent, and achieve the same result without needing to ...

I am using what i think is the correct x-over for the beyma's. Currently LR 4th order@1600hz, but have crossed them with the the JBL's as low as 1100Hz, both with zero phase shift (wonders of DSP). Not sure if i agree with only requiring 3 watts for the Beymas. I like as a rule of thumb to keep 20db...

Amplification Best Approach for Efficient Active Speakers
I am at a point of not knowing, how to more forward wrt amplification for my active speakers. I currently have a 3 way arrangement, utilising a JBL 2482 for the mids and the Beyma TPL for the HF. Currently i am using a 6B4G PP amp with the JBL 2482's. The issue is the efficiency of 114db results in ...

I am proposing to come, with Dave, so add us to the list for Saturday. I have a question, how much time is put aside for setting stuff up at the start of the day? The reason i was asking is i was thinking of bringing up my (part finished) 3 way horn rig. To get it set up for the room and all the EQ ...

F/S - Mullard 5/20 Monoblock's minus OPT's
I have a handed pair of 5/20 monoblocks, without any output transformers, sitting around that i would like to go to a new home. They are built onto non-magnetic stainless steel chassis's enclosed in Ash plinths. The mains and chokes are partridge, ones had its primary rewound ( J Wood). For further ...

Steve Thanks for the advice - not sure about open baffle, will lose the bottom end which is all that i want these for. I have a number of these which could be used as passive radiators, as i think i remember somewhere that they would nearly be as fast as a IB. I will start a thread about whats the o...

The b139's being slow was one of my concerns, especially when trying to keep up with compression drivers and AMT's. The question that begs to be asked is how do you tune them right? I had been thinking of either trying them in some of Scott's push pull TL or in PPSL, i would ideally like them to get...
