Well I know two people well who have big Tannoys that are 97dB -ish sensitive and both of these people use huge amps (e.g. six KT66s a side in PP mode). It is always best to have power in reserve and although I am foprever buildinglittle amps and getting great pleasure, I can't help feeling that pow...

You could do it but nb it ain't Loftin white just DC, but you know, 6AS7s can sound 'glassy' or hard, in the same way imho most Russian 'odd' valves do. ou'd prob. have to raise the voltage on the 6080 cathode and you'd lose the RC network of the cap and the grid resistor - worth doing just to see. ...

Yep, and there's a possibility of dreadful irony here, too.

I'm off to watch the telly. If its a larff its a larff, if not .... let's see shall we?

best to you all and laters ....

Yes Philip, I could be wrong couldn't I. I don't mind that. But I don't like fighting talk - what possible good can that be, so, if I overacted, I overacted. Again, let's see shall we. (and I don't really know what you mean by dragging Greg into this. He hasn't posted and is well capable of doing so.)

Hm, okay Darren, I should have chosen here to just speak for myself. I hope we are all enjoying things as they go along.

I'm all for the 'child within' and all, just not the bully on the corner and this chap comes across, possibly as either clumsy and insecure or just downright rude.

IMHO

If you really want to join a(ny) group, it really isn't a good idea to start with '...fighting amongst yourselves'. This is rude, patronising and clumsy. We are not as childish or foolish as the company, presumably, that you usually keep. If you were to tell us about what music you like, what equipm...

Hello Ian, a big buggar eh! I've had a few chinese amps and last year bought two. One, a Music Angle lasted 5 hours before I took it apart. It was awful. The other, a KT88 Sound Lustre really is 'quite good actually'. This biggie of yours is .... well, you will have to tell us  On the whole I ...

I'd go for the 'artistic sanding and a bit of licence', Dave.

I'm so impressed with what you have done so far. Just wish I had the skill and patience.

Yep, Amity is nearly done - in its first incarnation - inevitably a couple of rebuilds will happen. What has slowed me up is being sent to wrong output tansformers. They will arrive ....soon and then, bingo! Ian, its a long journey as I am no fan of PP but along the way I have learned quite a lot an...

Oh dear - guess what I've just ordered the parts for and I thought, too, that the front end ought to be a pair of buffer 76s, a) because they look nice b) should do the job really well as they are superb valves and very easy to implement c) can't stand the idea of having a totally SS amp. The Manger...

Ha ha - that flat response thingie is a conundrum. If, for example, you are getting 97dB SPL at 1kHz sine wave using 1watt of power, your 20Hz sine wave will be 26dB quieter. Between 2kHz and 3kHz (in anyone over 6months old <in a new born babe the resonant peak can be as high as 7kHz> ) you will ge...
