It's definitely a more challenging build than the T16 was, mainly due to the fact it is entirely hard wired, whereas the T16 was built on circuit boards. The manual is very helpful but it does require a little reading / thinking ahead. For example, a lot of the connections I leave unsoldered until I...

Construction has started, though I don't think my wiring is going to be as neat as this guy's....

Yeah that was without valves. And one of the fuse holders! Off to Maplins tomorrow morning to grab a spare rather than wait for another to be posted all the way from Kansas. That'll be after I've checked that nothing else is missing of course... As Steve said, I got my EL509's from Hot Rox... ...

Can you build a Grounded Grid in 24 hours? Seriously, congrats, and that's such good news, both from the standpoint of the success you had and the fact that the protection mechanism has been proved to be effective. Oh and the fact it sounds good. I think BR does recommend an active pre as the ...

Again, would probably need someone like Nick to look it over, little we can do remotely without poking around inside the chassis. I had another gander at the schematic, here are my thoughts for what they are worth, again take more notice of those with more experience than me! If the fault didn't app...

Hmm, not sure what would cause that sort of thing... you have got the 100uF coupling cap in the +ve feedback loop the right way around haven't you? (assuming you're using a polarised electrolytic). Is it like severe clipping? Maybe a low value resistor is substituted for a high value one and it's dr...

Gobsmacking is all I can say, even in mono. Phew, that's a relief. I'd probably double check both feedback loops... as well as the negative feedback there is that positive feedback loop too that goes back to the driver stage for the upper bank to balance out the gain. If that's pointed to the wrong...

Pages 223 and 224 of the book talk about this, the bias voltage is locked down to -45V on the -ve side with the zener diodes. It's then adjustable from -65 to -35 on the +ve side to enable the nulling out of the offset. So that all seems to fit with what you're measuring. Can you null the output or ...

You could pop that question on the Transcendent forum and see if Bruce pipes up with an answer. But I will go and have a look at the schematic and see if the numbers agree too. A newsletter arrived from TS today to tell me the kits are shipping! :D Apparently it'll come with eight different colours ...

Gentlemen, allow me to present.... The Infernal Deadly Fire Dance of the Minions of King Kaschei the Deathless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ashMSM_kc4M Has to be said though, once you've heard the early 60's recording with Antal Dorati / LSO on Mercury Living Presence, every other performance see...
