They were the big ones, the beefed-up 989's . I don't believe the speakers were bad, I suspect the other stuff .
How's the F4 ?
I'm thinking of building one to bi-amp bass on my new speaker project .

What did we think of the new Quad electostats ?
I thought something in the chain was wrong. Likely either the CD player ( whatever that was ) or the new Quad II-eighty amps, but the female vocals were not what I'd expect from those speakers, or from electrostats in general .

Shame ..

Thanks for the encouragement . Just give me about three years :D Briefly, I intend to get together a mid and upper section ( driven from eg. 2A3 SE ) consisting of the 288-H ( autoformered down a bit ) with one of the Aurum Cantus efficient ribbons , so getting about 100-102dB overall on that . Bass...

OK , the show is on the road .
Horns are close to being ready, from Martin Seddon at Azura .
425Hz Le Cleach Tractrix

Just last night bit the bullet and ordered two GPA ( Altec ) 288-8H compression drivers.

More on the overall plan tomorrow .

Might need some help on the bass options

Green by Hillage :D Top marks there . Were any of those audiophile approved or were they from the 2nd hand boxes ? I'm going to do a comparison of the 'Volunteers' original vs. Speaker's Corner this evening . Some light snow here, less than an inch has stuck so far there . Must be blizzards on the m...

You can get 'Folk Blues and Beyond' reissued on Speakers Corner, and I would urge anyone who has any interest in folk or blues guitar, or Jansch, Renbourne, Rony Harper etc to get a copy before they all disappear .

Now to find me a copy of 'Folk Roots New Routes' .....not easy :?

The Judee Sill reissue ( Heart Food ) is superb, filling the room with tone, ambience and dynamics.

Thumbs up for '4 men with Beard' productions on this basis then .

I was talking to the guy from Stamford Audio again near the end. Apparently the organisers promoted it as an AV show initially, so lots of the HiFi exhibitors didn't bother to turn up. It was a bit late when they changed their minds about what the event was supposed to be . Just going through the LP...

Wake

Solid Air on the turntable now
"Curl around me
like a fern in the spring
Lie down here
Let me sing the things you bring
and we can go down easy
Oh my lover, we can go down easy
Oh my darling, we can go down easy"
