Re: Quite possibly my last speakers

Steve, i didn't explain myself too well, but my thrust was that you can't avoid the speaker interacting with the panel to some extent ( and with the sound waves that come off the front). The driving energy is broadband so it's not just about getting it rigid at low frequencies. My concern was over S...

That wasn't my point.
Have you found a way of preventing a loudspeaker from interacting with the panel that it's mounted to ?

Re: Quite possibly my last speakers

While true, the mechanical energy at 2kHz is much smaller than at 100Hz. ie, panels are far less likely to be activated. 4x the excursion is required for every octave more of LF extension. Chris Yes but on the opposite side of the equation you have the Fletcher-Munson curve. Also the smaller size o...

+1
I cannot blame anyone for not bothering with this forum right now, and that's a damn shame, given what's it's meant to us over the years.

Re: Quite possibly my last speakers

I'm not sure, Simon. There is the problem that a panel material has to work across the full frequency range, if not 10 octaves, then maybe the panel is active over say 7 or 8 . It may be that a deeper composite structure is more rigid at 50 or 100Hz, but if it absorbs and re-radiates sound at 2kHz, ...

Very sad, and I thought Morrisey's comments were well worth reading.

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

I think it was 'Superlungs' actually ? That's what I've seen online and on an album cover anyway. The Zeppelin one had a bit more to it - I saw him answering a question about that on a vid last night from the US. He already had a good gig with his existing band about to start, going to the US suppor...

Chris - the more I look into Terry Reid, the more interesting it gets. He must be one of the most under-known UK artists, a very fascinating discography and career.

I can't see where the pivot is, in relation to the counterweight centre.
I wonder why the damping and paddles are required. I have a theory, but will let you answer !

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Re. 24, there was about 5 to 6 hours of heavy rain last night, here in N.Wales and Cheshire, it would have been grim. They had also had to change the main circuit to a hillier one due to roadworks, so there's been a lot of climbing. Hutchinson seemed to be creeping up the table steadily this morning...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Good stuff. I'm just watching the closing stages of today's stage. Very emotional for Pinot. In the background, my friend alerted me to the fact it's the National 24hr today, in Cheshire. Michael Hutchinson of TTs and Cycling magazine fame is apparently riding his first 24hr.... and it's pIssing dow...
