Re: CLC vs LC has benefits I never knew before

Interesting thought too... I'll have to play with that idea Gedankenexperiment of course... I like the MOSFET bridge with controlled switch on and off times idea...

Re: CLC vs LC has benefits I never knew before

Hi Paul, Very interesting article and worth studying but I'm not sure how to assess it if you are not looking for peak efficiency but best sound... Looking at the current graph over a charge cycle that compares capacitor input with choke input it is clear that the cap input has much steeper rise and...

Re: mit news

This AES paper https://www.aes.org/e-lib/download.cfm?ID=21014 quotes a 1926 US patent (H. W. Joy, “Diaphragm,” US Patent 1,611,454 (1926 Dec.)) as the earliest reference to a flat panel loudspeaker design... BTW I have notes that the earliest cone dynamic loudspeaker patent is two years earlier i.e...

Re: mit news

Yes, once in Dubai of all places on their Goldie open baffle with their sub-woofer below 180Hz so on a plexiglass panel about the size of a Quasar. It was close to sound of the AER BD drivers in the same demo room but the sub-woofer didn;t match them for speed or timbre. I haven't heard them on a pl...

Re: mit news

If you want to use a flat surface as a radiator AER has had a real audiophile solution for some years https://aer-loudspeakers.com/aer-bbx/

Its not cheap at around €3600.00 per unit but it is very good.

Re: 12 inch driver?

That depends on what one means by "crucial"... Any simulation result is only informative and not, in practice, definitive but information is often all we have to base our decisions on... The ts parameters when entered into the sealed box equations via modelling software (could be done by h...

Re: 12 inch driver?

This suggests that something like the SB Acoustics SB34NRX75-6 might work well as it has a relatively heavy cone to get the very low Fs of 19Hz for the driver and although an ideal sealed box for the driver is larger than the existing box, the 50 litres or just under of Daniels sealed box yields an ...

Re: PERSPEX QUASAR ver 2.0 prototype build

As an aside - I really like the SB drivers and I have used the 12" & 10" drivers in sub-woofers very successfully. My TV speakers use the a 12" SB mono sub with two Mark Audio fullrange satellites crossed over at about 150Hz and they work really well here - although if you listen ...

Re: PERSPEX QUASAR ver 2.0 prototype build

The Quasars would need to be redesigned to take advantage of tbe SB 15 inchers... And would end up bigger.... Ideally wider, deeper and taller... But the main problem would be tbe poorer tone from the SBs compared with the Supravox unless you crossover below about 100Hz the tone difference between t...

Re: Sonido SWR-145/a Satellite speakers

Hi Mark, Attached a pdf with the mechanical dimensions for the Sonido speakers. sonido-speaker-sizes(1).pdf I'm slowly recovering from the operation. Still very low energy but everything going well. I now understand why they say it will take a year to fully recover :-) Still pleased with the little ...

Re: Single-Ended Pentode Redux

Chaps,

Just wanted to say thank you for all the good wishes and thoughts. I'm sorry I didn't get to complete my thoughts on feedback but will pick it up again when I can. Didn't mean to derail Steve's thread....

Cheers All!!!

Sorry chaps just lost a long response to the above. I'll have another go later or tomorrow... BTW I going in for a major operation Monday to remove the cancer from my esophagus and stomach so I'll be offline for a while after that... Ciao James Nick, really hope the cateracts get taken care of soon!!!

Re: Single-Ended Pentode Redux

Sorry I was, poorly, trying to illustrate that the group delay causes more higher order odd harmonics to be generated and hence small local feedback loops are more benign than multiple stage or global feedback loops... This is often overlooked in introductory text books but can be a big contibutor t...

Re: Single-Ended Pentode Redux

That all active devices are non-linear... hence the generation of harmonics... Sorry I should have stated that upfront as a base assumption such as: Any active device is inherently non-linear in its transfer function between any input and output port i.e. regardless of how the signal path is configu...

Re: Single-Ended Pentode Redux

If we look at the vector addition of the original signal with the feedback signal and ignore for the monent the signal phase effects except for the 180 degree inversion of the feedback signal as it on an opposite polarity input port (ok that makes it a scalar subtraction) then being delayed the feed...
