I drive a 3D cad system for a living, if it would help out I'm happy to kick this around as a lunchtime 'project' to model it in 3D.
Drop me a PM with your email address if you're interested :-)

We've got a couple of these and they do a decent job but, as with everything in life you get what you pay for - I've seen some cheap ones that give poor picture quality. I don't think either of ours has a folder navigation facility but I wouldn't use it anyway; the easiest thing is to just copy all ...

... why should a FLH design be different to a BLH? Surely they are both 'horns', for which the optimal profile cross section is round, that just differ in length etc. In a FLH you are trying to get as extended and as smooth a high frequency as possible. In a BLH you DO NOT want high frequency leaka...

Whilst plaster looks like a good material the weight looks a bit scary; a very rough calculation, assuming a wall thickness of 4cms, suggests a finished weight well in exces of 250Kg per speaker. I'll double check and try to refine that a bit later.

Max, thanks for the compliment. The anticipated source will be a StreamBox DS, when I've saved enough pennies after Christmas. In the meantime it'll be the digital out on my SACD player (obviously for CDs only). The I2S interface utilises the proprietary standard defined by PS Audio and used in thei...

A quick search shows that there are a lot of different grades of plaster available, including some that are very dense/strong/chip resistant.

oh, i wish i knew some software tools that could do that kind of modeling. anyways, i remembered i have read about concrete and plater as material for horns and looking in Beranek's Acoustics i found the paragraph: The material from which a horn is constructed is very important. If the side walls o...

RAKK DAC build

I've mentioned my RAKK DAC project several times in relation to a couple of computer audio threads recently. I had this project on the back burner for a while but now have it almost finished; I'm just waiting to get the front and back panels back from Front Panel Express to finish it off. I've attac...

I've attached below the 2D vertical section of the horn profile. Overall height is just shy of 2metres. Mouth diameter is around 67cms prior to the final flare. Front to back depth is around 90cms. These are large dimensions but the intention is that the units will be pushed into room corners, this ...

BTW, if you're in the West Country and tempted to visit you may want to know that their location info shown on the website is out of date, they are now located in Bridge Street, Taunton.

Liquorice Pizzas and other Stuff

I don't think I've mentioned this record store before but they've recently moved to new (larger) premises in Taunton and are now on my route into town so I was reminded to post this. Anyway, http://www.blackcat-records.co.uk/ is a friendly place with a good selection of stock, a substantial part of ...

If you read MJK (www.quarterwave.com) you will start to get a picture of the problem of how a BLH must, unless its truly huge, transition to a TL below a certain frequency. Also, with two radiation sources you need to make sure what comes out of the mouth are just the frequencies you want; e.g. the...

Many people use Hornresp: http://www.hornresp.net.ms/ Pretty easy to use and i would try it first. I also recommend Akabak, its not so user friendly but its more powerful in my opinion. http://www.randteam.de/AkAbak/Index.html Both are free for non-commercial use. Ah, that's what you meant; yes, ha...

I would agree, I can't see inside the horn but it looks like they are applying a front horn style design to a BLH, not sure that would work. But then what I call a BLH is actually a BLH/TL so the same rules may not apply. Andrew Andrew, why should a FLH design be different to a BLH? Surely they are...
