I hate to disagree, but if people are finding that different support materials more or less subtly alter the sound, then to my mind that would imply that slate is not especially dead, but is in fact resonating. If it were acoustically / mechnaically 'dead', then there would be little resonance, and...

I seem to remember that some of my Beatles LPs have vocals on one channel and moooosic on the other. The early Beatles stuff was recorded on multi-track (I think it was three) 'cos it made it easier to make sure all the EQ's were right on the original mono mixes. When stereo came along the engineer...

There's no doubt that the sound using a 13.5V input is clearly superior, giving a bigger, fuller sound with more depth and detail, plus better dynamics than the 12V standard input voltage. Clearly there is a lot more that can be squeezed out of this DAC. Steve Steve I tried this after reading your ...

Use some decent interconnects with one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... m&doy=19m7

I've tried pre made phono to 3.5mm stereo leads in the past and they all sound pretty awful.

I'd say the most important thing is getting your analog front end sorted properly - most PC sound cards will give reasonable results.

Deep Purple In Rock/Fireball/Machine Head/Who Do We Think We Are/Made In Japan all strongly recommended from this corner - these albums all recorded by what for me is the definitive group lineup first time around (ie. at their most creative). All of the Zeppelin stuff. The Yes Album/Fragile/Close To...
