Watching with interest. Sounds like you'll get there before I do Steve, I'm still waiting for my kit to come from the States. I like the route you're taking with the PL's, should allow for some nice NOS output valves.

Yep, Chapter 13, 21 pages of detail.

Yes, the design calls for a 2x12V transformer to supply heater voltages to the 12AT7's and the EL509's (4 groups of 2xEL509 heaters connected in series to give 6V across each) plus some capacitor / zener diode gubbins to supply the A- / B- bias. So you'd need a separate 40v supply but it sounds like...

Hello Steve Any Rozenblit OTL is definitely worth a shot. I have had the T16 monoblocks for eight years now and have just sent off for the new EL509 based 15W OTL kit (justification, to take up less space and put out less heat!). Planning to build it in November when I have some time off work. What ...

My take is that results will depend to a far greater extent on what condition your unit is in, than whether it is a 301 or a 401. A well fettled 401 will sound vastly superior to a 301 in need of TLC and the converse will be true also.

 Interesting. I never thought I'd ever see B.R. come out with an amp which had 300B's in it. Anyone care to join me for a skiing holiday in Hell? I'd assume this must be another single ended design given the power output. Surely if it is possible to use the 300B for an SE OTL it must also be ...

My two Morgan Jones books arrived from Amazon today.

Will probably be rather quiet again while I bury my head in them and attempt to decrease my levels of ignorance.

Could the phase splitter bit be done with a transformer instead of a valve... which I've read on other threads is part of what makes the WAD 300B p/p so good.

Yes I know you'd end up with an OTL amp with a transformer in it but it was just a wild thought...

I'd dreamed of owning a pair of Hornings for years, then the UK importer/dealer (Jim at Audiolincs) was doing a "VAT free January" if I recall, and this was just as the pound was starting to collapse against the Euro. And I thought what the heck, I'll never get the opportunity to own them ...

So what is your "current amplification of choice" then Dave? OK current system rundown: "Classic HiFi" rebuilt Garrard 301 with new solid chassis (the first one he made) in a plinth of my own design based on Loricraft fundamentals; Thomas Schick 12" arm, Ortofon SPU 90th An...

I found this circuit online the other day and have also been studying it... I have the T16 monoblocks and whilst they do some things very well, I find they can get a bit shouty and etched compared to my current Fi 2A3's. As you say the imaging is extraordinary. I'd be very intrigued to see how this ...

Hello all... another new user here though I have been lurking a bit. At least I'm new to "audio-talk"... some of you may remember me as "DaveTheVinylJunkie" from the WAD DIY forums (and a couple of Eggfests), whose actual DIY credentials never got beyond building a couple of amp ...
