Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat

OK, so the KT77s have been taken out and I’ve reverted to the NOS 6V6 in the power stages of the amp. Seduced by the impressiveness of the reproduction, I should have known better. I mean, I’ve been at it long enough to be sceptical about things sounding merely different as opposed to genuinely bett...

Now then! After squinting through the top plate mesh, with the use of a strong light and magnifying glass, I can confirm that the filter op-amps are indeed OPA1678s. :)

Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat

Hi Ray, Copied this reply from Tony to Leon from the thread you pointed to. Just to say that I suspect most people did build with the OPA1678 and the only reason I built with NE5532 at the time was due to supply issues and huge lead times. (which is why Marcel specified them in the drawing/BOM) I di...

Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat

The thing is, this superb RTZ DAC does not put out the usual 2V. Ray mentioned this when he brought the DAC up to my place to dem it. Now although the DAC sounded absolutely wonderful through the 6V6 SE amp and Mission speakers, the sound did lack a certain dynamism, which all smacks of insufficient...

Re: More RTZ DAC Fun.

Just a cosmetic change to the DAC: I put a length of anodised aluminium angle along the bottom edge of the front. This tidies up the aesthetics quite nicely.

How are you enjoying the RTZ DAC?
Very much Tony! The RTZ gives me the best sound I’ve had from digital. The naturalness and ease with which it gets on with the job of reproducing music is wonderful.

I’d forgotten what a cracking sound this thing produces. Totally un-fatiguing, loads of subtle details. Excellent!

I loved lacing twine especially for wiring up test jack patch bays in telephone exchanges. Therapeutic and gave a sense of pride in the job. I brought a few reels home when I was made redundant in 1993.

BTW, your tension’s a bit slack.
