Hi Dave
If your finished ones sound as good as Scott's did at Steve's, then you'll be very happy with them. Good luck with the build.

Steve.

Hi everyone, After sorting out the grid resistors on the 6SL7 differential voltage amplifiers and replacing with the correct values, I found that I now had too much gain. Useable range on the volume stepper was only half the rotation before I was being deafened. OK the sound was better than it had b...

One possible idea for why all my little amps recently have sounded so good is that I have cloth ears and they are all mediocre. Could this be true!? horror. Wouldn't have thought so Andrew. You've built enough amps by now to know crap sound when you hear it. :D As for it being horribly out of balan...

Re: Paradise regained

But, and this is the point of all this happy rambling. How on earth is such a system balanced, let alone works. And, as it works and actually sounds prettty good, why all this Williamson this, Quad that and ... well pretty much every valve push pull amp in the world ??????? anyway, I'd value your t...

Hi Paul I like playing about with PP because basically I am gaining a bit more experience with basic valve circuits by going down this avenue. Once I have got it out of my system I might go back to SE. Maybe I won't, who knows? Once I had got the system back in its home environment and sorted the hu...

Yes. It's a bit cold down in my cellar workshop but I'm not working today, so I can play in the front room as long as I have cleared up the mess before the wife gets home. 6AS7s are notorious for being unbalanced and ideally ought to have a CCS in the tail of the output pair to force them into line....

For all I know, push-pull might be one of those "rites of passage" things that you have to go through, then abandon and go back to the one true way represented by the single-ended triode. I nearly fell off the wagon on Saturday at Steve's place. Simon's C3g driven 45 amp sounded excellent...

Hi Andrew

It's all on Pete Milletts site.
I downloaded it from there along with RDH 3. This one is a bity easier ti digest as it lacks a lot of the maths found in RDH4.
Gilbert Briggs is there too.

Hi Steve Thanks for hosting a great day out. It was great to her everyones gear. The standard keeps increasing. Because of these meets we get to hear how other people's equipment sounds and compares to our own. Simon's 45 amp driving my Metronomes was really rather good. I'd always thought they woul...

Hi Ian and welcome. Yes it's true that most of us on here know each other but only two years ago I didn't even know there was a DIY valve scene going at all. Very scary when I first saw what they were all talking about and the strange terms they were all using. But we are all supportive on here and ...

Hi Ed I didn't think for one moment you were trolling  It was prudent however to take the opportunity to preach the backup religion (again) Re Saturday, I don't have the preamp now as I raided the switched attenuator out of it to build the push pull amp. I could easily rig up an output from th...

In fact this was the easiest, smoothest OS upgrade I've ever done on a Mac. No issues with drivers or third party software on my system at least. Apple and it's developer community clearly did their homework with this one. There has been an improvement in sound quality with the upgrade too. Apple h...

i dont know about that steve.. i just do that ....but keep it really simple any way..half decent does me steve Now then Steve I know you don't just chuck stuff together  Trouble with push-pull amps is that it is nigh on impossible to keep them simple if you use the usual pentode output stage ...
