What about those little mangled 100 ohm grid-stopper resistors that get caught in the carpet ? You must have a few you could sprinkle on ?

EBay

You know I went on EBay and didn't find either of those suppliers with a search . That's annoying . Could have saved myself about #25, but there you go .
Sorry still no pound sign on this keyboard  :D

Ah dear. :( I'm actually really sorry I offended you, I did go off on a tangent a bit about speaker designers and software, but that's actually because I'm very enthusiastic about the subject at present . My dig at the expensive speaker end of things was aimed at Linn and B&W , not at people lik...

I saw your previous post and it seems you've taken something personally that I didn't intend to be meant personally .

However I'll accept the fact that you don't intend to post further on this subject .

Yes, comments understood. I guess the effort required to build one or two variants of a speaker in time and money are OK compared to the effort required to get the software up to a 90% confidence level of achieving the end result first time. We couldn't afford to try a few variants of a $30,000 airc...

Well, it's true most of the OD software is in-house or commercial, but I've seen one or two decent free packages ( one came out of Russia I think ) that were good enough to design multi-lens system, and anlayse to a basic degree , although you wouldn't get the vast range of options you get on the ne...

Thanks for the comments .
I am a bit surprised about how basic the software is on some of this, in this day and age :? . As a lens designer, I know that the software that our company had circa 1970 was already more sophisticated than anything I've seen in the speaker software .

Ah, Ok, so the difference between a vent area of 1.17 Sd and 0.65 Sd is pretty big in the world of BR ? I'm just a beginner in these things , so it's all a steep learning curve.

The last comment , I wasn't sure I quite understood ?

Cheers

Yes, the best one is of course the 103R :D

Though of course the SPU might turn out to be pretty good.

Hello Scott I put the params of the 285GMF into an old B.R. M.King sheet a friend sent me, and it looks pretty good . http://www.supravox.fr/kits/jensen.pdf I think you make the case for the venting being 'very different' a little strong - the vents on the link above are 1.5" wide and 16" ...

I looked at the Fonken design against Onken calculations I have stored ( an excel sheet ) . It ( Fonken) seems to use a bigger volume and hence a higher 'alignment' factor than typical with the classic designs, and the overall port area is about .65 of the driver area, compared to 1.0x in the old de...
