Very nice. Didn't know if anyone had seen them or not... Might look into one for either my next project or even finishing off my current one nicely. Will check with the jury at Owston to see if it is worth it or not.

Enclosures from Rapid

These look nice for a valve amp or whatever, especially if, like me, your wood and metal working skills aren't up to much. http://www.rapidonline.com/Tools-Fasteners-Production-Equipment/Enclosures/Instrument-Cases/Hammond-1444-series-aluminium-chassis-with-walnut-side-panels/500156/kw/hammond https...

If these graphs are typical, I may be stuck: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/mixin ... se-607556/ I guess it depends on what the amplitude is when all hell breaks loose.

Does BoxSim know the phase shift for my drivers, or are they all the same? No, no, that would be silly. It doesn't know about my drivers (nobody does...), so it can't know the phase shift at any given frequency. This explains it quite well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibration#Forced_vibration_wit...

Thanks Chris, but I am more interested in measuring or calculating (or even having an educated guess at) the phase shift in the bass mid itself as it rolls off. I would imagine that, for a crossover to work properly (as you described), the crossover phase shifts must dominate those of the drivers. I...

Crossover phase shift

I am looking at improving the crossover on my 2 way speakers and I'm a bit confused. Looking at a second order crossover for the tweeter only, leaving the bass/mid to do its own thing. There are different types: Butterworth, Linkwitz-Riley, Bessel, Chebychev etc. and I don't know which to choose. So...

Hmm, an audio first - a loudspeaker for married men

The thing is, my speakers do not play nicely with valve gear, so mosfet it is, however the FH3s play very nicely with valve amplifiers, and probably benefit from the higher output impedance that they have. I suppose I could try to make a valve amplifier with a low (< 1 ohm) output impedance, and may...

andrew Ivimey wrote:But is this 1 watt RMS mosfet or sublime glass and HT?
It is mosfet, but it is single ended class A so it's not all bad. Will be interesting to compare at Owston.

I hope so. I've upgraded the amplifier especially - have doubled the power to 1W per channel :D It's an RMS Watt mind, so watch out 8)

It is quite surprising and certainly explains SOME of the difference between valve and solid state. I might have a go with mine, but will have to stop at about 2 ohms as (according to WinISD) the bass will go a bit bonkers after that.

Mike, if you read the Mixed Mode Feedback section onwards on the link I posted http://sound.westhost.com/project56.htm I think it will become clearer. We are not talking about constant voltage or constant current, but somewhere in between i.e. some non-zero value of output impedance. Quote: By adjus...

Some years ago, I made an electronic variable resistor which could be set to anywhere between +8 Ohms and -8 Ohms. I don't have it anymore, but it is reasonably trivial to make one. This can then be wired in series with any given amplifier/speaker arrangement and adjusted to optimum. I seem to remem...

Hmm, I could try my USB adaptor...

No, scratch that. I have finally got a system that I can just enjoy except one track, and that's fixed now so I'm going to leave well alone and get back to enjoying some music.
