BINGO..!!! Done it, copied Ubuntu hard drive onto another Took me ages cos Paragon Drive copy doesn't work properly, every time you make a change to any hard drive you have to shut the prog down and re-start it, pressing refresh drive information doesn't work, although it visually looks like it has ...

So I take it from that for linux you don't want a partition to load it into? You want "unallocated space" ? BTW, I couldn't get drive copy to copy anything, error message "No free space (can't create partition of requested size)" I tried deleting partitions altogether, ie unalloc...

Forget that, I have Paragon Drive backup and that works in Vista and can work with Linux drives

Well I had another go, glutton for punishment. Took two attempts but I'm typing this on the old laptop using Ubuntu. Nick, the main reason I wanted to clone/copy the Ubuntu drive is because I have another identical laptop to this one. But I can't seem to load Ubuntu on that computer, I get an error ...

Yes it was slow to boot, but as you say you don't need to do that every min do you, Opening any aps was also a tad slow, writing a doc I had to wait for the letters to appear on screen and I can't type fast. I have another laptop somewhere with 700mhz and 512mb of memory, maybe that would be a bette...

Nick, I can accept most of what you are saying, it's just part of the learning curve for a newcomer migrating from windows. Be honest, there is a lot to learn, add to that this operating system is less plug and play than what we are used to. That's fine too, to a point......my comments on not wantin...
