Re: SV811-3
Steve, if you need any parts for this ask on here. I've got a lot of things that in reality, I'm never going to use so I'd rather see them go to a good home.
All I really want to keep is anything particular to my 833a build.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Yes, there were many reasons why the British car industry disappeared.
At one time the only truly British car company's were TVR, Reliant and Morgan. Two of those have gone and the other is no longer truly British.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Apart from maybe Minis no one thinks of those cars in any kind of reverence that some do of say an Alfa though. There's a reason (or several) why we don't have a car industry any more. I don't have any experiences of Alfa cars, although friends told me the Alfasud was good until such time it rusted...

Re: Nothing In Particular
My first car was a yellow Austin Allagro. £600. It was the sports version as it only had 2 doors ;-). Only ever ran on 3 of the 4 cylinders. I remember jacking it up one day to change the wheel and the cill collapsed on to the jack because of corrosion. There was a little more ventilation in the ca...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Many years ago I was working for a Motor Factors in Heybridge, near Maldon in Essex.
One day I called at a small premises in Maldon town, and in the back part was a machine knocking out plastic (or nylon) Lockheed master cylinder screw caps as used on Minis and other British cars.

Re: what are you doing ?
I saw a survey where Americans were asked "what is the most British car of all time".
The answer was the Mini Cooper, the original early 60s one not the BMW version.

Not so Andrew.andrew Ivimey wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 9:59 am And I'm sure the geezer who designed the Mini also dreamed up the Lambretta scooter. He was not English or even British.
Alex Issigonis was British /Greek and had no connection with Innocenti till British Leyland sub contracted Mini building and eventually took them over in 1972.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Erm I thought the mini was Italian. What ? Alex Issigonis was a British-Greek automotive designer. He designed the Mini, launched by the British Motor Corporation in 1959, and voted the second most influential car of the 20th century in 1999. There was an Italian modified version of the BMC...
