Hi If you were provided a matched quad then there should have been indication of placement, ie left shunt, right shunt, left series, right series. Without that you are unlikely to get good matching, My comment about "how many do you need" was that balance control can be done and to ascert...

Hi Chris, no I haven't fiddled yet. Would I be right to assume that each LDR requires a 7805 and LED's to get proper balance? The suggestion of using the LED was simply to visually demonstrate how effective the ground pin is as a current source. Proper balance begins with matching the LDR as a pair...

Ah well, thanks for looking :)

If you want to go active, then the TPA3116 amp modules might be a cheap (and good) way to go. http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5632 I saw those on here the other day. I have implemented lots of ClassD boards (TA2024, TA202O and 50w one TK2050? - not sure) Would be a cheap way to d...

Stereo coffee wiring is simpler. Rather than the 7805 regulator grounding make its ground leg the connection to the wiper of the pot, so you then use a single gang pot which solves channel imbalance from using another gang. Current can then be regulated from setting Vref /R ideally with components ...

Shane, I think it might have been you who posted on (AOS?) that they had intended to make an active version (hence the large backplate/hole on the rear. I think that an active bass unit on these is essential. If you push them hard the upper frequencies just dominate. I understand they should be used...

Both mid-ranges were perished. Got replacements from a guy on net from the Netherlands for £12.

I was going to say that they need a lot of power up 'em to get them singing. I am used to 94dB speakers and the pre has to go a lot further to get a decent sound level and that is with 150w monoblocks.

My LDR Journey

I thought that I would share with you my DIY LDR's. This is the very simple schematic (or more correctly diagram) that I used to make mine. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i239/saxonsex/image001-1.jpg This one I genuinely forgot about! The reason I have been using the first one I built which I hav...

Saw these outside a house I deliver to. Cabinets poor, mid-ranges perished, had been out in the rain for?????? Owner said he was just about to take them to the dump, and yes I could take them http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i239/saxonsex/DSCF2365_zpsb2031fb7.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i...

How time flies!

I registered here in 2011 and then forgot about it  Have recently received the loaner Stereo Coffee LDR Pre and posted my thoughts on it on AOS (now copied on here). Am currently re-furbing a pair of Heybrook HB3's that I got to just in time as they were sitting out in the rain and about to be...
