Hi Nick,

Can I try this Finemet transformer in your circuit on the start of this thread in place of Sowter 8650? If I can, what are the necessary changes do I need to do?
Here is the link to Finemet at thread #180: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/twisted- ... rs-18.html

Here are some info about the Finemet transformer.
ESS9018 transformers is made by Mr. Yasuo Suzuki - a "typicalâ€￾ Japanese audiophile. Primary DC resistance is 14 Ohms, and secondary resistance is 16 Ohms, and the turn's ratio is 1+1:1+1. The transformers can be had with black urushi coating that is supposed to dampen against microphony.

Information about FINEMET can be found here http://www.hitachi-metals.co.jp/prod/pr ... -fm9-e.pdf.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Nick,

Can I increase the value of 50R pot to 60R? The last time I tried to zero the TP1 and TP2, on one tube it only goes to 0.063V.

Thanks,

Joe

Nick,

I've checked those testpoint resistors that is connected to the cathode, all of them are OK, maybe the tube are just bad. I put another tube and it's working fiine again. Thanks for your help.

Nick,

The cathode (pin3 and 8 ) measured 0V. I assumed this is the problem?

Thanks,

Hi Nick, I need help please... My right channel tube keeps on going (open) bad. I just installed and zero'd the new 6n6p more than a month ago, the right tube turns (open) bad, then I replaced it couple of days ago, after one day of used, it turns bad again. What could be the problem? Is this a bad ...

Nick,

Thanks for the good design. I finally installed the chokes that you recommended and it sounds good. I have few more questions for you.
Now I'm getting 190V to my B+ after I installed the choke, do I have to reduce it to 170V? What are the consequences if I leave it at 190V?
Thanks,

Joe

Nick,

Do I need to zero the voltage between TP1 and TP2 everytime I'll replace the (same type/model) tube?
Thanks,

Joe

[quote="Nick"] What is the "Salas Shunt Regulator"?
It's claimed by several users to improve the sound.

Nick,

I ordered the 156g Hammond choke, so, how I'll connect that in place of the 1k resistor?
Thanks,

Joe

I used a choke in the supply, that would be a option for you, replace the 1k resistor in each chan with a little choke. Say a hammond 156G in each side.

Nick,

If I replaced the 1k resistor with 156G Choke, can I still connect the Salas Shunt Regulator?

Thanks,

Joe

Mike, Thanks for posting the link. Nick, Actually, I replaced that 1k with 1.8k to reduced the voltage to 170V to match your circuit. The DVB guy is talking about 6n2p, that is what he is using on his board, that board is switchable for 6n6p, 6n2p and 12ax7 with the use of toggle switch. I have the ...

Nick, The supply that I'm using is the Lampizator Board. I used all the parts and same values from your circuit post on the top of first page of this thread and followed your test instructions. I used the 402R 0.1% (can't find 401) cathode resistors. I adjusted the test points to .001V after warm up...

Nick,

Here is cathode voltages: On one channel it's 6.6V, 6.8V and 6.5V,6.4V at the other channel.
It sounds good though.

Thanks,

Hi,

The 170V to center tap of 8650, is that measured value after you connected the 8650 or before?

Just want to make sure, cuz I set the supply to 170V, after I connected the 8650 the voltage drop to about 135V.

Thanks,

Joe
