Re: what are you doing ?
if you try to play back recordings, are they easily audible? With the mic I used (which has now packed up) they were recorded at such a low level they were virtually inaudible, although it seemed to be able to make identifications ok. I was using one of these with the same Ugreen sound card: https:...

Re: what are you doing ?
What mic are you using? Mine packed up a while ago, and seemed to have insufficient gain as well. A Clippy Mono EM272 Omni microphone (FC047) from FEL Communications https://micbooster.com/clippy-and-pluggy-microphones/65-1084-clippy-em272-microphone.html#/36-single_2_4_matched_capsules-single/202-...

Re: what are you doing ?
So, every week the BirdNET-Pi setup in my office sends us a recap showing the changes week-by-week in what's been heard - for week 11 (last week): Total Detections: 8645 (-5%) Unique Species Detected: 50 (-2%) = Top 10 Species = European Robin - 2297 (+38%) Eurasian Blackbird - 1750 (+83%) Great Tit...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Just have to post this lovely photo of a Firecrest, the UK's smallest bird at just 5g. The photo is from the Marden Wildlife group - that's the next village to us and where I keep my bees - they do a lot of ringing and recording of migrant birds and have some super photographers... the photo below i...

Maybe it’s the much lower frequency that forces the requirement for an earth path?

Re: Audiojumble 03/03/24
My one uses 8xAA, so 12V rather than the 6V of yours... Same available current, twice the voltage, so as you say, presumably pokier.Morgan Jones wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 10:55 pm I'll measure what it produces first. But it certainly didn't glow a fluorescent tube when held in contact.

Re: Audiojumble 03/03/24
Arrived. Disappointment. Insufficient poke. Just about managed to produce an orange glow in an 85A1 neon). I am told that: If it's blue, it's air. If it's green, it's barium. If it's pink-purple it's argon. And Jack's large nixie managed a blue glow with his tester, which I assume is pokier. Return...

Probably less than £10 to make including box and all components/pcb, then charge €250 for a new one!Morgan Jones wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 10:21 am Don't you just hate people who hide what they've done?
This is probably very similar:

Re: Audiojumble 03/03/24
As suspected, it's a 50% duty cycle, 1 second on, one second off RF pulse at 270kHz. Likely a couple of KV, but can't measure that at the moment - I'll have to get my trusty 40,000V probe out...! I can't get the board out easily as they've deliberately sealed it into the box and potted some of the c...

Re: Audiojumble 03/03/24
Photograph would be nice. Measurement would be really nice, but if (as I suspect) it produces high voltage, but AC, it would be difficult to measure. Inside it, I would expect a ferrite transformer, with or without voltage multiplier (which should be easy to spot). Waving a scope probe a foot away ...

Re: Audiojumble 03/03/24
Nice to see you there. It seems the Voltarc company went bust some time ago, and I couldn't find your natty little tester anywhere. And idea of what it produces on its aerial? AC, DC? Voltage? It wouldn't be difficult to knock up something. They are around but are now called "Masonlite ELT – E...

Re: Audiojumble 03/03/24
A pretty good day. Three AT types (MJ, DtB & Thomas) rocked up and SWMBO and I managed to sell a fair bit of ephemera.
