Re: Stacking Quad ESL57's vs Buying a modern Quad ESL's

Very interesting hearing of your experiences with the ESL57s and how you overcame their shortcomings. It was many years ago I heard stacked ESL57s and I accept memories over 40 years ago get muddled. However, the A/B comparison we did was against some Radford Studio 360 TL loudspeakers using Linn LP...

Re: Wanted:Quad ESL 989s.

Thanks for the replies. I did consider building a pair of eraudio electrostatics or a pair from scratch but don't have the time. On Tuesday I bought a pair of ESL 989's that had been re-built by Quad and set them up last night. The clarity of sound is staggering, showing up flaws in recordings. The ...

Re: Wanted:Quad ESL 989s.

Hi Ray, yes I'm still about and still repairing pro audio gear and test gear. I backed away from posting much in forums due to spending time doing other things. I just missed a pair of 989's that One thing Audio had. I found a pair for £3k at a dealer in Guildford so shall give them a call to find o...

Wanted:Quad ESL 989s.

I want to buy pair of Quad ESL 989's. I have cash for a decent pair.

I borrowed a customer's pair of ESL 63s [in which I repaired the power supplies] for a few days and was stunned by the clarity and managed to spend an hour with the 989s, so I'm hooked.

Just noticed this thread and apologies for going a bit OT. "how much music would be released from modern studios if they didn't use digital filters......I suspect none. There would be a huge demand for 24 track 2" tape decks and acres of rack equipment." Well there's a thing, I've jus...

Mike H, thanks for that. I found the programme very quick to learn and easy to use, even adding angular radial lines around a switch. If anyone else is considering having panels made or engraved, this is a great way of doing it. I've done the deed and ordered a front and rear panel at a cost of £120...

Thanks for that Mike. I've just downloaded the programme and I'll give it try. I've never used any type of CAD programme, I'm more of paper/pencil/slide rule person - well I do use a calculator quite a lot. I'll let you know how I get on and post some photographs when done.

Magic marker on a scrapped piece of MOD test gear is what it has been housed in until now and it is a bit of an eyesore. I want to sort of finish this pre-amp before I get distracted and start something else, so it would be nice to have it looking good. Screen printing is a good idea, I could do the...

Engraving

After five years of experimentation I decided it is time to put my active valve pre-amp into a decent case. I was considering having the front and rear panels black anodised and then engraved so the letters show "silver". There seem to lots of companies that offer this service but I was wo...

Yes they do wear out and are easily damaged by any particles in the water. My £150 mixer stared leaking after 18 months so I tried everywhere to find replacement valves without success. I contacted the manufacturer who sent me some replacements but they were incorrect and insisted they were the righ...

Ebay has long worked this way. You cannot have a Paypal account unless it is linked to a Bank, so if there is a charge back and you have no funds in Paypal they'll have it out of your Bank; not sure what happens if your Bank account is empty though. I'm a business seller so are bound by distance sel...

So did this guy try Oak, Beech, Elm etc before deciding on the above?
