Re: GM70 Monoblocks’
My state of mind is much better now I’ve weeded out the failed components and arrived at something that sounds better than the pse 801@ and that Ive put to bed class A2. These GM70’s do such a good job in A1 I see a good amp at the end of the tunnel. Im glad I bought the Quad’s. Diana is on board a...

Re: GM70 Monoblocks’
I think it needs the extra gain of the 6072 but I could leave it as it is and get some volume. Im glad you agree about the EL34 and that you and I are on the same page. I agree a quick first pass is the way to go for me in my state.id like to try and get the tributes and output valves done tidy if I...

Re: GM70 Monoblocks’
Yes the 300b was considered also and the px25. But EL34 is ok at this phase. Then since theres a interstage I considered Sukuma style with GM70 . But this should work. I’ll put the big blue variac we used with the gm70 we tortured at eggborough on Colins inefficient electrostatics. These fifty seven...

Re: GM70 Monoblocks’
I’m thinking about the driver, and looked at the 45 the px4 aswel as the aforementioned in my first sketch. But I’ve now decided to use the EL34 triode connected. Since the 400v b2 supply coming straight in at that position is perfect for it. It gives the voltage swing I need for full power of the G...

Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat
Wound components these days are not wound for 243 volts as theyre imported and we said to the rest of europe our voltage is 230. But it isnt. No wound components from cheap sources have any reserves. More true for chokes you want to use as choke input. Mr Senior Sowter is right.

Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat
Good move Stephen. When I had a 212 amp filling the dining room I could never get rid of a hum. One late night I was listening and with lights off I saw a spark from the potted military choke input choke. It was keeping perfect time with the noise. Obviously it was replaced. Problem solved. Just bec...

Re: GM70 Monoblocks’
Ive reworked out the. Distortions. 2nd is correct. 3rd is lower, 0.2%. I wont edit the post above as the thrust is, that in Class A distortion is not an issue.

Re: Directly Heated 1619 SET
Yes it is so, and no point fighting class A2 using the right valves keep in A1 Ive moved back to the GM70 everyones projects calc’d the distortions into 10k I think the Tributes are set at 10k. And distortion is no longer a tale of woe unless Ive calculated it wrong. I’ll double check that and repos...
