Re: Headphone amps to build or buy
Havent used the headphones for around a month because the usb port on the tablet i was using has gone abit wonky. So thats gone downstairs to act as the interface for the WiiM mini i bought. While tidying out a cupboard of a load of the packaging boxes for things that ive kept 'just in case', i foun...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
Done a little bit of fiddling with these today. Read something that scott wrote in the thread for the 12" ones about the vent stuffing and part of it clicked into place with something that was bothering me. There is a peak at resonance and a corresponding dip above that which was annoying me, a...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Looks like the bushing part thats galled up is available as a spare for about 20 quid so its not too bad if i can get one, this part screws down onto the plastic main body so hopefully the body shell isn't distorted. It did come apart properly though and id expect it to be hard to get it to bits if ...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Balls. Just come to use my hitachi m12 router, and upon spinning it it was greeted by a very ominous whine from the top bearing. Took the top cover off to have a look and sure enough the top bearing is on its way out. A load of play that shouldn't be there and the top housing the bearing sits in has...

Re: Nothing In Particular
In the service list in the app it has an option called open network stream which allows you to add a url so it looks like it does allow you to do that. It has bbc radio, iheart radio, calm radio, radio paradise and an option called vtuner which appears to have a load of stations in it. If you have a...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Got a little streaming thingy about a week ago called a WiiM mini. Tiny little thing, about 3 inches across, like a little hockey puck. It'll connect to loads of streaming services and with its own app it'll supposedly play stuff off a nas. I havent got a nas. The app itself can be used to play stuf...

Re: It's time I built a D3a -> 5687 phonostage
I looked at the same hybrid idea when the cole broke for the second time and i looked at the inductor spec. 600r does seem abit high for the valves in the cole to be driving.
I came to the conclusion that i was well out of my depth so left the idea
Fwiw i was looking at texas instruments lme49720

Re: It's time I built a D3a -> 5687 phonostage
I thought you had cinemag lcr units in the one you built, could you not take those out instead of shelling out for the sowters? The s&b ones in my cole are 600r ones iirc, are there different impedance ones available? I always wondered why 600r which seems a little bit of a strange value, but i ...

Re: Liquorice Pizza Player
When i rebuilt a 124 for a customer i stuck a 3009 on it to test it. I thought it was quite good, beautifully made. Maybe a bit sweeter than a 301 at the top end, a bit loose in the bass compared to the 301. I find my lenco smoother and tighter all round, lenco was better than both at the top than b...

Re: Headphone amps to build or buy
Little review of the fostex t50rp mk3 after spending some time with them I find these to be very very good for me. I value transparency very highly, the ability to pick an instrument, voice, the triangle in the back of the mix, whatever, and follow it, and be able to instantly switch to something el...
