Re: Nothing In Particular

VoIP is coming to you. Though of course (as I am sure you are aware), VoIP is entirely possible using nothing more than a IP connection and a gateway endpoint provider to connect to. Its been some years since I was last involved, but setting up something like Asterisk and some handsets will let you...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

All vehicles sold in EU must be 0 emissions by 2035…i thought this was already put into EU law? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65105129 Yep, its almost as if individual countries in the EU get to decide what gets passed into law or not :-). Ironic how we don't have a say in it anymore now ...

Re: More SEPs

think it was 1/3rd the value of cathode resistor bypass cap
If I remember correctly (which I may not) the ratio of the two caps was related to the gm of the valve.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Yep, these are the ones I was thinking of https://www.longdogbrewery.co.uk. The logo is clearly not a Dachshund.

Re: Nothing In Particular

As it happens, the trademark on Longdog doesn't cover drinks as there was already that brewery. I remember that back when I applied for the trademark.

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Yep, I have to turn off Ethernet over mains if I want to see into the noise floor. The noise on ground is enough to show up on the scope. I assume various inductance on leads and stuff is enough to generate signal voltages that the scope see's

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Ahh, hang on, with the heater disconnected the top valve is also off, so the lower valve anode is floating, so its just noise pickup I would expect on a high impedance. There is a lot of noise about in the ether now.

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

When they are not conducting the anode is a high impedance point, it may be less noise when they are conducting. It could be that you are seeing noise on the power supply line.

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Sounds like a big step. I always remember to turn off the soldering iron when trying to find hum. The worst one I has was the jfet phono. While checking for noise I spent ages trying to find the source of low frequency (say 1hz) wandering on the output. I was trying to find the source blaming the po...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

It can still be connected to the power supply and working, just not connected to the output of the riaa bit.

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Does it do the same if the input to the Aikido is unconnected and its input connected to ground by the input resistor.

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

May not be the case but remember that the scope will show the signal between the scope's earth and probe tip, so worth considering where the scope earth is and what affect the earth is on the amp and any potential induced voltage on that. Hmm, yes I don't think I've ever had the probe earth in the ...
