Re: Anyone here understand tuning PID controllers?

The worst thing we had to control was pressure of argon in a 3m * 5m * 2m pressure vessel. This was on the plattens of a hydraulic press heated up to 600C (the platterns had three racks full of pid controllers and thyristor power controllers controlling the individual zones). The input valve was tin...

Re: Anyone here understand tuning PID controllers?

The TD4 controller has a "learn" mode that auto-tunes That will be using one of the algorithms I mentioned. I would let it try that and use the parameters it finds as a starting point. It will probably turn the output on and let it ramp up way past the setpoint, so make sure there is noth...

Re: Anyone here understand tuning PID controllers?

Also, given that I assume you only have a on off output (I finally read the rest of your post), 50% output is going to look like what you describe. Maybe work using more I than P in those situations, but that will tend to make the output waver around the setpoint. I would think about using some meta...

Re: Anyone here understand tuning PID controllers?

Turn I and D to 0. turn up P until it just starts to oscillate. back P down 25%. Then turn I up until it starts to overshoot. Turn down 20%. Turn up D just so you feel you are getting your moneys worth, but in my experience unless you have a fast system with a rapidly moving setpoint it won;t matter...

Unrelated loudspeaker question that occurred to me. has anyone taken a electrostatic bass panel and put it inside a sealed box or a port loaded one?

Re: Interesting (non musical) YouTube videos.

Didn't he call his butler "Scrotum" because he was his wrinkled old retainer? "Scrotum, the wrinkled retainer" was the exact quote if I remember. As always the original radio and then LP was IMHO far better than the film as to me the joy of it was its (his) use of language. That...

Re: Is streaming profitable......

I'm perplexed how remastering a vinyl copy of one of your albums indicates thumbs up for streaming your albums ? So would I, but given that you replied to a post (I can only assume the previous post to yours was what you were replying to, given the lack of quotes in your post) that was talking abou...

Re: Is streaming profitable......

I don't think Steely Dan would be to impressed . Well, whats left of Steely Dan (I assume you mean the band) seems to have no problem with the process Donald Fagen has overseen a new remaster of Steely Dan’s 1973 LP, Countdown to Ecstasy, which will be reissued on vinyl on May 26 (via Geffen/UMe). ...

Re: Fusion....

Well, you could justifiably argue that all of Return To Forever would count as a Corea LP. But try working into his extensive catalog via Chick Corea The Chick Corea Elektric Band.

Re: even more lateral fets

Does the top-end sound a bit duff, Ed ? It doesn't look like much , but I know from the current-sourced filament supply project a few years ago with Nick and Andrew that small phase rotations up there can make or break the sound. Though I am not sure how we can know that that effect in a heater sup...
