Re: Happy New Year

Belated Happy new year to everybody. My New Years resolution is to stop electrocuting myself and get a sensible hobby that I understand. :D

Re: Computer Operating System Beta Offers

Software glitch. It tried to boot, mouse started to work then froze, then blue screen with text with a code. Googled the code and it said something about incompatibility with early ssd devices. Prior to the latest update it had always worked with my ssd. History now because I wiped it and put Ubunt...

Re: Computer Operating System Beta Offers

I Beta tested Windows 10 for what seems like a year, with great success until an uodate found incompatability with my SSD. The result a broken boot sector on the SSD, and the end of a long love hate era operating computers on Microsoft. So do you think I should beta test for Apple? I think I'll wai...

Thanks Jack, Rob - I like both and its the blend which is good. I often mic both up and record a blend of the two - if I can sort the phase issues out! (I'm still very much learning how to record well in my small home studio) I'd really like a cab loaded with 4 old G12s but had a couple of V30s spa...

Hi Rob, yes the 12AY7 can be really good in V1. I built a clone of the Fender Pro ( 5EA i think from memory ) and it had a 12AY7 in V1. That was a very nice amp. For speakers - I am using either a diy 4x12 with 2 V30's and 2 G12H's or a DIY 1x12 Thiele ported cab I found people raving about on the ...

Hi Rob, I used the value from the Marshall model 1986 Bass as I'd liked the Kossof sound and also watched some clips of JD Simon on Youtube playing through a 1986 and loved the tone. I haven't tried 220K mix resistors instead - I might try strapping a couple of 470K's across temporarily to see what...

Hi just noticed that you have 470k grid stoppers on valve two. I've got 270K on mine and have been toying with the idea of upping to 470k, is there a great difference in the sound?

Cheers Rob :)

Is the 23.3 peak or r.m.s. Volts? Hi Mike You had me going there, I just assumed that the meter was measuring RMS. I've now checked with the spec sheet for the meter and it specifies sine wave RMS so am going with it being RMS. I think the peak to peak would be 33.93 / .707 = 47.1 Watts. Reversing ...

Love it Rob - super job bet it sounds wonderful. I have to stem the amp building for a while to work on a few bits of outboard gear for my home studio. What else have you built ? Cheers Pete Thanks Pete. This was my fourth. My first valve amp was built from a kit and I guess that’s where I got the ...

Couldn’t wait to test the transformer so installed it today. Works! Shocked? Yes I was. Only minor snag I had and to be fair it wasn’t anything that you wouldn’t encounter when fitting an output transformer was that I fitted it with the anodes connected the wrong way around sending positive feedback...

Very nice indeed !!! I love DIY marshall clones. - I am just about to start a build of a 50w model 1986 Marshall clone as my next amp. I have several guitar amps and a clone of a Park 1210 Rockhead was my last one. I want the cathode follower sound of the Plexi 1986 circuit though. Cheers Pete Ye, ...
