Re: Yet another ESL project

Hi Ed, The d/s (diaphragm-to-stator gap) in my speaker is 0.063" (1.5mm), which is the practical minimum for a hybrid panel and gives very high efficiency for an ESL. The choice of crossover frequency is a tradeoff between max output and EQ'ing the dipole rolloff. The dipole rolloff becomes sig...

Re: Yet another ESL project

The editor of AudioXpress magazine saw my website and invited me to write an article about my latest speaker, which I did, and that article was just published in the September 2017 issue. I'm a bit disappointed my speakers were not on the cover (commercial speakers won out there) but they did a very...

Re: Hi from a Speaker Designing Fanatic and Lenco Newbie

Hi and welcome Steve,
Designing speakers is a psychosis but it's always nice to meet others similarly afflicted.

Re: Who Has Built ER Audio's Acorn, ESL III or 505 ESL Kits?

Hi, I’ve never built any of the ER Audio kits myself-- but since on one else has responded to your post, I’ll offer up some predictions based on my experience building hybrid ESL’s of my own design. ER Audio has a fine reputation, their prices are reasonable, and their designs appear to be well thou...

Re: Yet another ESL project

Hi Paul,

The system is bi-ampd using a DSP crossover. The electrostat panel plays from the 218Hz crossover frequency to 20kHz where the DSP chops off the bandwidth.

Yet another ESL project

The speaker building psychosis got the best of me again, folks. This time it’s flat panel electrostat that’s electrically segmented for wide dispersion. https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jCbyHy9OTiQ/Vv3QRmfmiaI/AAAAAAAABZQ/BUO3xQ4j3QcwCUmwIaSjg8cu5xVnqztcw/s1600/ESL.JPG This new project was not a whole new...

Hi mate, I have a Transporter, the original one with the Nav Wheel. Got curious, tried it as a preamp, worked great. Use mine now as a digital transport via BNC to the Dac, sounds pretty awesome. Some good info on using the TP as a pre: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Connecting_directly_to_a...

Stream from Ipad to Transporter?

Hi all, My setup steams Itunes wirelessly to a Logitech Transporter using an Ipad App. I have audio frequency tone generator app on my Ipad which I would like to use for speaker tuning. The problem is that I can’t import the tone generator into Itunes and I can’t figure out a way to steam its output...

I just finished up installing the mode switches this evening so I'm now all done building my new segmented ESL's. I have them playing in narrow dispersion mode at the moment and I've not yet decided which mode I prefer, as each has advantages. The narrow mode gives spooky real imaging and amazing sl...

Thanks Toppsy, I’ve read great reviews on the quality and sound of the ER Audio kits and their prices are certainly reasonable. I’ve built perf-metal panels and their power supplies from scratch in a 3-day weekend but segmented wire panels are a whole lot more work. Fortunately I have smart friends ...

Good effort :D That looks like a very non-trivial thing to do. Some skill honed over a number of years there, I guess ? Is the tensioning of the diaphragm ( evenly ) quite a difficult task ? What does the resistor network achieve ( to someone ignorant of the way these ESL's work ! ) . The resistor ...
