Look fwd to seeing/hearing some of this stuff. Things have certainly changed over the years at Owston. Scary, humming, 1000V breadboards seem to have gone the way of the Dodo.
New 300VA, 25-0-25V toroid at bottom right: IMG_0201.jpeg Whilst I was at it, I removed the crap quality shielded input cables going to the selector and replaced them with simple straight wires. I find loads of these blue/yellow twisted pairs lying around next to BT street cabinets when I’m out walk...
Anyway, what has been bugging me for a while with this amp is that the output stage has a higher voltage transformer than the input/driver stage, which I’ve realised is a bit pointless as this isn’t a valve amp. The output stage (current amp) can only produce as much current as the swing of the driv...
…Now I have to maintain what they call "posture" for a week - lying face down for at least 45 minutes of every hour, day and night. 7 days of that then 7 days of doing absolutely nothing. Post op check this Monday at St Thomas's then another visit in 2 weeks, hopefully for sign-off... Bes...
Plastering a doorway I built last week from studwork and plasterboard. Just having a cup o’ tea waiting for it to go off to a state where it can be polished up. I’m normally completely crap at plastering, but after watching a youtube tutorial the other day, I have finally managed to produce somethin...

So long wires are detrimental to sound ? Dunno to be honest Dan. The opinions seems to be that in a transistor amp, power and signal paths need to be as short as possible, but the amp sounds fantastic as is, so maybe I’m obsessing over nothing. IMHO it's yet another example of the crap that is talk...
