Glad you enjoyed it Greg, as it was all for you :D

Right, folks here may be interested in reading this thread about a bake-off at my place at the weekend involving the Stereo Coffee and Tortuga LDRs along with an NVA P90SA and a heavily modified active Croft pre.

Thanks Paul - I needed that.
And I'd now like to go ahead and name my feelings and calm down:
- fear
- inferiority
- insecurity
- shame

And now I'd like to demand (very calmly and full of love and understanding) that you apologise :D

Glad you are all sorted Paul and enjoying the LDR, and glad Chris is improving the documentation as I must confess I also would have preferred more and clearer images. In my case when I first built it, I ended up confusing the RCAs and connected the LDR input to my power amp and the DAC into the LDR...

Paul forgive me for being thick, but are you saying the sound is too loud at minimum levels of attenuation?

Also, are you missing some grounding from the other connection at J25?

Mine was for a commercial product. I will wait and see what the bureaucrats say, to be on the safe side. Ok, it turns out it LDRs are legal!. So, Ed unleash yourself and I look forward to what you come up with :) And here's some more comment from Morten (of Tortuga) on his forum. So good news :) Th...

Yep, I too would be interested in a better comparison. I built one some years ago and it was good, but I admit I am biased against them because of the problems of balance and zero attenuation. also, I would also be interested to see what looking closely at their linearity shows. I can't comment on ...

My position is the same as Steve S's, it sounded very good, or rather is seemed to do nothing wrong to the sound. But I can't in all honesty say if it was better or worst than a good stepped attenuator, or for that matter a good pot, say the Tocos I like a lot. Me and a friend (Macca from AOS) did ...

Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I thought RoHS only applied to products that are sold commercially? I didn't think it applied for example in Ed's case here where he's building a DIY item for himself... Mine was for a commercial product. I will wait and see what the bureaucrats say, to be on th...

I was going to start a new thread about Pete's ATEST but saw this and thought I'd ask my noob questions here for efficiency. Both me and Thomas are new to this so prepare for some hand holding requests... :) First of all, I want to shield the case and was originally going to get copper tape like thi...
