Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Being stupid…. The battery test revealed that one of the drivers on the second speaker was connected in reverse, sorted that. The driver was wrongly designated by SEAS. The impedance spike has moved back to 40hz same as the first lightly stuffed cabinet. A SPL measurement shows no difference in the ...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Managed to measure the response of the lightly damped and over damped ? subwoofers. The results are interesting. The extra damping equates to a 20db reduction in response. How much of this is the undamped resonance, is the question. Blue trace is the under damped cabinet (obviously) EB50685C-D080-49...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Got a chance to experiment with the stuffing of the subwoofer boxes. Changed the rockwool fibre pulling out and added some wool fibre wadding, added it end on 5” deep tightly so the wadding comes upto the back of the magnets. 70BC187B-34CD-468E-8F4B-989DA405A519.jpeg This had a positive effect on th...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.
Some of my ex uni peers have already left Ford, as they have closed down the power train design business in Europe, as these skills aren’t needed with EV’s.

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.
The automotive industry have already put wheels in motion to retire IC engines, they won’t be be changing their strategies. No elected body with a life span of 5 years really care about environmental stuff where the effects are outside of two terms in parliament.

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Installed the sub drivers this evening. Quick check with DATs didn’t give me what I was expecting. I initially built a test cabinet of 26 ltrs internal volume and tested the seas driver. For the actual one I am using two drivers in parallel, in a box of internal volume 52 litres. Both boxes fully st...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
After reading up abit more, this was informative https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/ch ... -absorbers
I have decided to go with rock wool insulation, the melamine foam is really only good for above 600 hz. Using the melamine foam in the rear chambers for the TPL’s.

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Maybe I am going mad…. Well that’s what SWMBO thinks. Been laying out the acoustic treatment for the midrange cabinet. Interesting discussion on DIYAudio about using melamine foam for absorption. With a hack of using magic erasers, as they are an order of magnitude cheaper than buying it in sheet fo...

Thanks for the clarification, if I come it’s increased the attendance by 50%
I suppose it’s the lack of hotel rooms which is the challenge.

What happens on Sunday? As I have never been there the day after… Why I ask is I have a clash on Saturday Evening and will need to leave by 4:30. (Also Dave is getting tired with his condition nowadays) Do we leave our set ups in the hall and then carryon on Sunday? As leaving my set up and then com...

Innuos Zen mini Mk2 Storage/streamer
I have surplus to requirements a Innuos Zen Mini Streamer with 2TB of on board storage. Bought this for the upcoming shows as a stand alone streamer and DAS. I was surprised that it sounded better than my existing NUC with Dalphile, that I went and bought at more expensive model. It’s loaded with th...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
I tried wrapping a test piece, it wouldn’t shrink enough to be able to do the horn profile. I have gone for a deep red, so we won’t clash now at Owston

Cabinets all now nearly finished, one more coat…. 8D384D44-0133-4475-9E90-5272E898B73C.jpeg Fronts currently are pacing me getting them finished. After the failed staining disaster. Decided to spray paint them. Working through the coats, cutting back with 320 grit now, won’t be piano grade finish. V...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Yes, I wanted to have something simple that doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi. The Innuos streamer has inbuilt storage, so all I am doing is telling it what to play, so no NAS. I thought the gigabit switch, acted as a router, but maybe it doesn’t. Will look if I can set a static address on the Innuos box. I sup...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Need someone with a better understanding of networks than me. I am wanting to connect my laptop to my music server/player without using the internet. So at Owston and the WAM show I dont need to setup a local network. My rudimentary understanding would be that I just need a crossover cable to connec...
